This episode was painful to record. I admitted some things out loud that I had never even realized before. Now I want to first-off say: This episode is NOT about who's right and who's wrong, and I do have to admit mid-way through I do feel I get a little bit preachy. But my main focus, my main GOAL for this episode was to share my experience, my feelings, and what it feels like to have people you care about targeted — when a lot of other people don't understand because they didn't grow up with similar experiences. When Don Cherry went on national television to target people who "come here" and don't wear poppies for Remembrance Day, I didn't feel targeted. Because I was born here. But I'm embarrassed to say that I didn't wear a poppy this year. So why didn't I feel called out by his message?
