We've both been out and about! Sue's been exercising the freedom of choice that business leaders sometimes forget we have and Sherry's been blackberry picking for muffins! Was she really the mad woman her children dread her becoming? (01.28 – 04.28)
This week we mull over the power of language in creating success. Are We What We Say?, asks The Guardian. With at least 50,000 thoughts going through our minds each day, which thoughts do we choose to give significance to? Once we recognise the power that our thoughts, and how we express them in the language we use, have upon our performance, it's easy to see the importance of choosing words that are able to create a positive state within us, so that we are capable of not only seeing possibility but also taking positive action. We explore some examples and share our experience of working with clients (and our own mental monkeys!) to notice what is and isn't useful to achieving the success we aspire to. (04.29 – 29.28)
Momentum is critical in getting past the Tipping Point! Sue is taking every opportunity to discuss and fine tune her new leadership development programme 'The Unstoppable Leader' and is thrilled at the response so far. Sherry is launching a new networking programme 'City Conversations' for women in the City who are looking to create connections, share conversations and experience the power of coaching! (29.29 – 35.36)
Sue's been watching the World Athletic Championships and has been mesmerised watching excellence in MO-tion! Sherry's been dealing with 'anger issues', diagnosed by a listener in Episode 2 – great work Lindsey Baxter! (35.37 – 40.31)
Sue recommends 'Words That Change Minds' by Shelle Rose Charvet, for anyone who wants to look at the power of words and language a little more closely. Sherry's been surprised to find her own book on display in a resource area as a recommended read. (40.32 – 42.48)
Mentioned on the show and other useful links Today we mentioned a recent Guardian article on language.
We also talked about a number of books:
