IN THE SHOW

Where or how have you felt most alive this week? Sue's been to a rescheduled International Women's Day event and been inspired by the three 'celebrity' speakers who very openly shared the personal stories and challenges that lay behind their individual and unique achievements – particularly the topic of navigating 'difference' in the world today.

Sherry, as usual, has been out and about continuing her training, being inspired by nature. It's definitely her space for not only getting creative but also for finding inner peace in her day and week.  (01.30 – 7.06)

How have you been challenged?

Crikey – we cover some ground in this episode! We follow on from our last podcast where we talked about setting big hairy audacious goals, and look at how to set ourselves up for success. We briefly revisit some of the key points in goal setting, as an essential component in achieving success, and also look at how we recognise the gap between where we are and where we want to be, and what we can do to move us on! 

Sherry shares how she has really been examining her goals, since our last conversation, and critically appraising whether or not her proposed actions will truly move her closer to the goal.  We also explore the importance of balance in achieving our most amazing life so that it's not all about work! We conclude by sharing our own personal top tips for being confident in who we are and achieving success in what we do – drawing on our personal, corporate and entrepreneurial experience. (07.07 – 40.45) ** Regrettably, due to Sherry's recent health news and surgery, we have had to postpone our next event until 2019. So where are you building momentum right now?

As we keep saying, momentum is critical in getting past the Tipping Point. Sue has completed the  Mission Map (and here's another shout out for Alison Jones who sneaks into almost every episode!) for her Mission Unstoppable programme – bringing together the core skills that change makers and legacy leavers need, to be their best selves in leading their mission. 

Sherry is continuing work on her Career Confidence Hub and is looking forward to gathering feedback from prospective clients before getting ready for the big launch later this year. (40.46 – 46.14) 

How have you been inspired this week?

Sue's been inspired, at the funeral of a very good friend, by a poem about 'the dash' that represents the life lived, in between a person's year of birth and year of death. An incredibly powerful challenge when we stop to consider the meaning of a simple hyphen when it is used to signify the meaning of our life.  

Sherry's been inspired by Vicky Warr, one of her fellow master-minders, who has completely re-recorded every video in her daily online fitness programme, to better meet the needs of her clients – such consistency and resilience!  (46.15 – 50.32)

What else or what next? Sue shares one of the key messages from the women's event she mentions at the beginning of the pod – to keep on looking forward, focussing on what you have yet to do, not what you may not yet have achieved.

Sherry commits to looking after herself more and to keep on doing so! Where or how have you felt most alive this week?

Sue's been blown away by a recent episode of one of the UK's Continuing Dramas exploring male rape and male suicide –  often taboo subjects, both explored with rawness and respect – and drawing true excellence from the whole production team.  

Sherry thoroughly enjoyed her weekend with her NCT Tribe (especially the geeky bits!), in particular the sense of 'coming home' when spending time with people with similar intentions, values and ambitions.

Delighted that On The Tipping Point got a special mention at the event! (01.40 – 8.50)

How have you been challenged?

This week we talk about setting intentions and big hairy goals! Our big goals are the ones that motivate us to keep going, no matter how scary or daunting they are.  

There's something about setting audacious goals that ensures they are energising and challenging and also very personal to us as individuals. No-one's ever been excited by a SMART goal, right?!

We explore how to set goals and intentions in a way that not only lights our fire, but also helps us to gather personal evidence that we are specifically achieving what we set out to achieve, in a way that keeps us on track with our mission. (08.51 – 36.32)

So where are you building momentum right now?

As we keep saying, momentum is critical in getting past the Tipping Point. Sue has a new online course that has just gone live, a version of the flow challenge, in partnership with CareerCake.com – another alliance with fantastic women who are on a mission to help people take control of their careers!  

Sherry remains hugely busy with her NCT project and is therefore looking at how to get into consistent and sustainable habits of self care to be fit for the task ahead. (36.33 – 40.30)

How have you been inspired this week?

Sue's been inspired by some feedback she received on her Advanced Communication Skills course, where someone used one of the techniques she taught on the course to re-visit and clear a negative experience from earlier in their career which had huge impact on their career since. It turned into a powerful reminder that we don't need to be perfect in what we do to have a life-changing impact.Sherry shares a TED talk podcast she listened to, by Susan David, about emotional agility. Two quotes in particular resonated: "We own our emotions, not the other way around" and "Our emotions are simply data, we don't need to allow our emotions to be directive." (40.31 – 45.12)

What else or what next?

Sue decides she will be more audacious, especially in her mission mapping.  

Sherry decides to set a big hairy goal for her business. We'll feedback in due course!   (45.13 – 46.35)

Where or how have you felt most alive this week?Sue's been getting up close and personal with the triffid in her garden and, in doing so, found some hidden jewels that now have chance to thrive in the light and space she has created – just like us, when we have the right conditions to grow!  

Sherry has had an amazing weekend, not only supporting at the London Marathon, but also running her latest Career Confidence workshop – one of her favourite ways of working! (01.35 – 08.05)

How have you been challenged?

This week we talk about the power of masterminds and working as part of a group to develop yourself and your business. Our business (or career) only grows as fast as we do, and masterminds in various formats were a consistent theme when we talked to our virtual conference guests about what had contributed to their success.

We explore the benefits in terms of personal and business growth, accountability, challenge, support and the power that can be found through the reciprocity of belief. We share our own experience of being part of a mastermind to get past the tipping point, as well as what is important to us in leading groups and creating a blended experience that enables personal and business growth. (08.06 –36.35)

So where are you building momentum right now?

As we keep saying, momentum is critical in getting past the Tipping Point. Sue has completed the mission map for the new direction of her business, and has launched Mission Musings – a series of questions, thoughts or quotes about mission. Next steps – the development of her new online community and a new podcast to explore the personal stories of those change makers and legacy leavers who are on a mission to make a difference in the world.

Sherry's exploring options to continue to support new clients, whilst also fulfilling the demands of her current contract, and has opted for developing a Career Confidence Hub to help as many women as possible at an affordable level. (36.36 – 41.19)

How have you been inspired this week?

Sue's reading Fearless by Steve Chandler – a book about having the courage to change the things you can, and shares some thoughts on fear that area based around a quote from Marcel Proust "The only real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes".Sherry's been inspired by one of the clients who attended her Career Confidence workshop and has been on fire ever since the weekend!  Not only has Marion immediately established a Women in Surveying community but has also set plans in place for a Virtual Conference to take her business forward. (41.19 – 46.05)

What else or what next?Sue reflects on her new Mission Unstoppable strapline and the importance of never giving up on your mission and seeking the support that you need.

Sherry reflects on a stressful few days in the NCT office (the joys of GDPR!) and the importance of reminding ourselves that these moments or phases in life and business do and will pass.

Sue's been taking new VIP clients through the 'I Gotta Be Me' intensive coaching experience and has been inspired by each client bringing the very best of themselves into the coaching and also their commitment to their personal and business growth in the year ahead.

Sherry has signed up to a 26 mile hike across the South Downs in July and has been inspired not only by registering for the main event but by her first training session in the pitch black! (01.50 – 06.10)

How have you been challenged?

This week we talk about the power of taking action. We explore why taking action is important, the distinction between being and doing in business, and the differences between taking consistent steps and making inspired leaps.

Whilst consistency, motivation and momentum are important factors in moving our business forward, it is also critical that the actions we take are focussed and in line with the strategic direction we want to move in. We share how we do this, who/what has helped us along the way and what we do when we get stuck. (06.11 – 29.15)        

So where are you building momentum right now?

As we keep saying, momentum is critical in getting past the Tipping Point. Sue's been through a mini re-brand following the virtual conference in December and she's really on a mission to explore 'Mission Unstoppable' and how she can support clients with discovery, design, development and delivery of their mission.

Sherry's excited about her new Career Confidence Membership Hub which is currently in development to make her career development resources openly available and more accessible to support a much broader audience online. (29.16 – 36.22)

How have you been inspired this week?

Sue's been overwhelmed by the response to a single tweet looking for guests for a new podcast series where she will be interviewing inspiring 'mission makers'  - people who are on a mission to make a difference in some way. Sherry's been inspired by one of our guests from On The Tipping Point LIVE! Suzanne Dibble is a business leader who really knows how to take action and has taken the implementation of GDPR by the horns by establishing a Facebook community for small business owners which has grown exponentially due to the quality & clarity of advice, information and reassurance being released on a daily basis. (36.22 – 41.55)

What else or what next? Sue concludes with a quote from Mark Twain:

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the things you did. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbour, catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

In this bonus episode we depart from our normal format and share the highlights from our recent virtual conference On The Tipping Point LIVE! where we talked to 13 extraordinary female entrepreneurs to discover their stories of getting past the tipping point in business.

There was SO much helpful advice and experience shared that it's impossible to get it all into one episode, so here we reflect on five of the most consistent messages we heard from our speakers about building success in business.  We hope you find them helpful too!

IN THE SHOW …

We start with a few moments discussion to put our own thinking into context, in particular looking at what makes these five messages relevant to both of us.  (1.27 – 6.20)

1 - Being You – be more you than you have ever given yourself permission to be before.

This popped up in everyone's interview in some way, and the specific examples that stand out for us are in the following interviews (6.20 – 9.20):

Lucy Whittington: how to recognise your 'thing' in business and the difference between running 'a' business and running 'your' business.

Susan Payton: owning your story and being who you really are in your business.

Alison Jones: choosing to lead, being more of who you are and being 'unapologetically you'.

2 - Stepping Up – the continual expansion of your comfort zone through being prepared to lean in to your fear and take action regardless.

So many examples of this one! Here are some of the key stories that stood out for us (9.20 – 22.30):

Alison Jones: the moment she discovered no-one gives us permission to lead in our business – we have to make the decision to step up.

Cara Sayer: being prepared to make mistakes and learning from what doesn't go to plan.

Lottie Moore: celebrating what we want to replicate in business, no matter how small the win. Also remembering that everyone's 'Everest' is a different height.

Sarah Arrow: choosing between a rock and a hard place.

Lindsey Fish: never settling – being willing to fail in order to learn how to succeed.

Bryony Thomas: anything of long term value has a component of struggle.

3 - Taking Action – the importance of making opportunities happen, not wait for them to come to you. Here we also reflect on the many wonderful discussions during the conference about what we can learn from nature – from cultivating potatoes to building fire! Our key stories for taking action are (22.30 – 34.35):

Lindsey Fish: being persistent and consistent in the face of adversity and not giving up.

Kat Dever: the years of work that go into being an overnight success, and the importance of building our business in the right

Nicola Huelin: what we can learn from planting and cultivating potatoes, and the learning that comes from a burning platform.

Sarah Arrow:  how she tripled her income by showing up consistently in her business.

Vee Smith and Veronica Pullen: taking action when perhaps you feel stuck, and how to move forward from a place where you can imagine all your emotional and material needs are already met.

4 - Masterminding – the importance of challenge and support, in growing both yourself and the business – and the business benefits of gathering high quality, collective wisdom and new perspectives. 

This was or had been a key factor for all of our speakers – and the key stories for the benefits of masterminding are (34.36 – 45.35 ):

Suzanne Dibble: the personal value gained through investing in business mastermind groups – the shared journey between like minded people.

Kat Dever: holding the vision for each other with the highest intention

5 - Personal and Business Investment – investing in ourselves, valuing and celebrating who we are, and investing in our personal growth. Here the key stories are (45.36 – 54.00):

Suzanne Dibble/Kat Dever: making our choices out of hope (or investing in our faith) not our fear

Lottie Moore: investing time and money in the same place in our business

We conclude with a personal learning or two, and we share the details of our On The Tipping Point Mastermind Group – launching in January 2018!

Sue's been wowed by her one-to-one clients who have all been taking extraordinary action… often the actions they have been most hesitant about taking and now are seeing really positive outcomes. Sherry's been blown away by passion and energy in the room at the NCT Annual General Meeting and reflects on how passion, purpose and even anger, can be used positively to create momentum for change. (01.36 – 08.30)

How have you been challenged?

This week we talk about Finding Our Voice. We explore the importance of expression, passion, presence and connection as leaders, and discuss how impactful it can be for business or organisational leaders to share their personal stories with their communities and followers, in creating powerful human connection.

Stories are also a great way of learning from others, and it is for that reason that we have invited a number of highly successful and inspirational entrepreneurs & business leaders to share their stories during our upcoming virtual conference, On The Tipping Point LIVE! which starts 27 November 2017.  (08.31 – 34.15)

So where are you building momentum right now?

As we keep saying, momentum is critical in getting past the Tipping Point. Sue's exploring collaboration and, in particular, opportunities to work with businesses to create a culture of learning through role modelling (one of the best ways to accelerate learning!) of colleagues, mentors and gurus. 

Sherry shares her excitement over the response we've had to On The Tipping Point LIVE! not only from our speakers, but also from our followers as people hear about, and apply for, the Hot Seat Challenge! (34.15 – 40.05)

How have you been inspired this week?

Sue shares a story from a fellow coach who has launched a 'liberation movement' to liberate us from our to-do lists! Having shredded his to-do list, he was immediately liberated from the 'energy of obligation and past commitments', enabling him to create his future from the present moment and intention.

Sherry's been inspired by the passion and energy of her fellow NCT colleagues and how, when you gather together like minded, purposeful people, magic happens! (40.05 – 45.02)

What else or what next?

Sue concludes with a thought from Patsy Rodenburg: 

Presence will transform your life. Presence will invigorate every aspect of your life. Presence will awaken, within, your full potential.

Sherry is going to investigate The Accidental Creative and commits to getting creative through developing more opportunities for live classes and group work.

Where or how have you felt most alive this week?

Sue has had a wonderful day working with a new client who had booked the I Gotta Be Me Intensive Coaching Experience and, because he is an actor, Sue had arranged for the Experience to take place in the iconic Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama – an inspirational venue that Sue has hankered after working in for a little while now! 

Sherry has two experiences to share – a Rock 'n' Roll wedding where she was keen to continue her exploration of being in flow using dance, and also a fabulous day at her latest Fresh Air Networking event exploring both the beauty of autumn and the creative thinking that being in nature can inspire. (01.42 – 07.26)

How have you been challenged?

This week we explore Leaning In. What does it mean? Why is it important that we do and how exactly does it help us?  How do we do it – what's the process?  We share our experience of leaning in, both in our former careers (particularly in the recruitment process) and now in building our businesses. 

We discover so many facets to leaning in – the strength in authenticity and self belief, the fear of imposter syndrome, the need for alignment between understanding what we do and what we are capable of, and owning who we really are and who we are becoming.  (07.27 – 35.30)

So where are you building momentum right now?

As we keep saying, momentum is critical in getting past the Tipping Point!  Sue shares some personal insights from the silence & stillness retreat she attended recently (mentioned in the last episode) and, as a result, is launching the 'We're Not F*cking Small' Tribe, a coaching group for women who are ready to stand out, and are looking to make 2018 an extraordinary year. 

Sherry has given up on procrastinating (Imposter Syndrome Be Gone!) and has a confirmed venue and date for launching her City Conversations Network! If you're in or around London on 29th November – make sure you join her!  (35.31 – 42.12)

How have you been inspired this week?

Sue's been inspired by one of the Find Your Flow Challengers, Louise Wiles, who wants to apply her learning and experience from the Flow Challenge to her own community. Louise is an expert in helping expats and their families to thrive abroad, and wants to introduce the model used in the Flow Challenge to her clients because it has such powerful application in managing change and transition. (Sue will be two timing Sherry and appearing on Louise's podcast early in 2018!)

Sherry has had a wonderful time interviewing at a local 6th form school to help students practice their interview skills ahead of making university applications.  She was impressed not only by how articulate the students were in their applications and interviews, but also their individual ability to accept and acknowledge the feedback offered. (42.12 – 46.45)

• Where or how have you felt most alive this week?

It's all about the power of networking for us both this week! Sue has felt most alive whilst having fun, being the MC at the Zokit Business Expo in Cardiff. Her first time as MC, it took a little while to realise that it's not so different to coaching – helping people to get the most out of their experience!

Sherry has been having fun whilst networking at the UK Document Excellence Group which she used to chair, and has enjoyed sharing knowledge with and being of service to old and new connections. (01.30 – 08.12)

• How have you been challenged?

This week we explore Resistance – a natural sequel to our recent episode (007) on Being in Flow. We consider how to recognise resistance, what resistance might mean, how and when resistance manifests itself in us and how to respond and deal with it. 

What becomes possible for us when we face our resistance, and what are the consequences for ourselves (and others) when we don't? In resistance lies personal vulnerability, yet also deep personal growth. 

We share our personal experience of working through resistance and being prepared to lean in and love our resistance in order to go past the tipping point and achieve our potential.  (08.13 – 30.00)

• So where are you building momentum right now?

As we keep saying, momentum is critical in getting past the Tipping Point! Sue has launched a new one-to-one short coaching programme (Discover Your Zone of Genius) for ambitious professionals who want to understand how they do their very best work, and learn how making small adjustments can really accelerate performance to create maximum impact.  The Flow Challenge on speed!

Following on from the LinkedIn Challenge, Sherry is running her LinkedIn Confidence programme. She's also hugely excited launching her City Conversations which starts 29 November in London (in the City, obvs!). It's all about having fun, creating interesting conversations and  connections, enjoying some group coaching – and you get to have dinner together too!! (30.01 – 36.40)

• How have you been inspired this week?

Sue's been on the Uncontained Retreat, an extraordinary experience created in stillness and silence, run by David Taylor – a fellow coach, based in Yorkshire. An intense and very inspiring experience which she is still processing. 

Sherry's inspired by a presentation at the network she mentioned at the top of the programme, where a once seemingly impossible concept has finally been implemented after many years of persistence! Keep on keeping on, folks!  (36.42 – 43.03)

• What else or what next?

Sue finishes with one final quote from Goethe: "Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, magic and power in it. Begin it now."   Sherry also ends with an inspiring quote from the book "Spike" by Rene Carayol: "We can either wait for our world to change, or be part of the change by believing in and acting positively with our spikes at full throttle." • Where or how have you felt most alive this week?

Sue reflects on the Board Away Day she attended on the day of recording – a space not only to plan as a board but also to consider the leadership strengths & skills that each individual board member brings and how each contribution can be used collaboratively to the benefit of staff, clients and partners. 

Sherry has been practising being in flow (check out Episode 7 for more info) and has been dancing! She shares her experience of trying something new, do listen carefully amongst the laughter for her strategy for getting started. Hope that calf is healing, Sherry! (01.42 – 06.35)

• How have you been challenged?

This week we consider how we deal with challenging circumstances - the challenge of Resilience.  How do we build our resilience muscles to help us deal with a world of complexity and change?  We explore some of the different theories that prevail about what resilience is, in life and in leadership, and share our experience of dealing with challenge, change and complexity in a more resourceful and resilient way.

We consider some of the factors that influence our response to challenge, and the importance of knowing how and when to take on response-ability for events within and around us, so that we set ourselves up for resilience rather than recovery in our leadership.  No more lurching! (06.36 – 28.56)

• So where are you building momentum right now?

As we keep saying, momentum is critical in getting past the Tipping Point! Sue is really enjoying ongoing discussions about potential collaborations next year and is also looking forward to launching a new short coaching programme to help her clients 'Discover Your Zone of Genius'.

Sherry is getting hugely excited about On The Tipping Point LIVE! which starts at the end of November and is also really enjoying her LinkedIn Challenge which is underway at the time of recording and is already shaping into a really exciting group to work with. (29.00 – 33.48)

• How have you been inspired this week?

Sue's being stalked by the subject of 'Brave Leadership' (tune in to Episode 7 to hear where the story starts) and shares some words from Emily Sande's "Read All About It". Sherry has been massively inspired (and scared!) by one of her clients who is a real action taker – just like Sherry! (33.50 – 38.10)

• What else or what next?

Sue's curious about how our discussion on resilience in life spans across to resilience in leadership and asks for feedback from our listeners on the specific challenges of resilience in the work or leadership setting. 

Sherry updates listeners on a response from one of our listeners about Brain Wave Recursive Therapy (described previously, in error, as Hypnotherapy in Episode 5). (38.12 – 41.35)

• Where or how have you felt most alive this week?

Sue has attended an event about Responsible People & Responsible Business, and was particularly inspired by a comment on Brave Leadership, during the Q&A panel with local business leaders.  We'll be back to that in a future episode!  Sherry has been inspired by Sue's recent decluttering exercise and has been clearing space in her home and business for new possibilities and opportunities.  And guess what, it's working!  (01.36 – 04.45)

• How have you been challenged?

This week we consider the experience of Being in Flow – that wonderful state when anything feels possible!  Sue shares some definitions of Flow, as offered by the experts, and then boldly shares the personal definition she has developed in helping clients to 'find their flow'.  We explore our own experience of being in flow and explain how, by understanding how we do our best work when we are in a flow state, we can apply those learnings to other areas of life & business where we would like to improve our performance, in order to operate in our zone of genius more easily and frequently.  Sherry shares her experience of participating in Sue's 'Find Your Flow Challenge' and reflects on how it has impacted on her own personal performance and leadership. As we keep saying, momentum is critical in getting past the Tipping Point!  Sue is enjoying exploring opportunities to collaborate with other business leaders, looking at where her intensive coaching skills can add value and make a difference in other areas.  Sherry is getting ready to launch her next LinkedIn challenge and is continuing to develop her plans for City Conversations, a London based network, which launches in November. • How have you been inspired this week?

Sue's been inspired by some words of Robin Sharma about how we live our days defines our life.  Sherry has been inspired by her recent Confident Conversations interview with Karen Hall which goes live this week – who has role modelled the importance of stepping up in leadership, with tremendously powerful impact on those around her.  (28.08 – 33.40)
