Whenever a camera is put in front of my face, the first thing that usually comes to mind is my mother's voice saying, "Show me those pearls, Gideon." It was an old-fashioned phrase she often used when I was little, before taking my picture. She used to say it all the time, even when I was already smiling, and I can’t recall a single moment when she wasn’t urging me to grin as wide as I could.

I always wondered why she never used a more common expression like, "Say Cheese" throughout my childhood...
