Welcome to the Truth 4 The Youth Podcast. In this episode, Garth challenges the view of labels on young people and the dichotomy between why they call our young people gangs when they get together and socialise in a way that other groups do too.
Bankers, MP’s and Sports Teams are all groups of people, who share the same code of conduct, share the same ethos and act and behaviour in a similar way. They even dress the same, so why is it when applied to young people we label them as ‘gangs’?
Garth asks you, what are you doing to help the youth and make it better?
“Be the change that you want to see”
KEY TAKEAWAYS
When other groups gather together and have their own code of conduct we do not label them in a certain way. Other groups meet together, dress the same and act the same, but we do not judge them or view them with a particular stereotype. Groups such as MP’s sit, talk and discuss, it’s a closed community an isolated group that others aren’t allowed in. Bankers and MP’s have caused some of the biggest problems to our society, things that aren’t in the best interest of the public and that are damaging to us, but we don’t label them as gangs. Nobody is looking to put bankers behind bars, they have destructive behaviours too, in fact, their even better off after causing financial problems to our society.
People need to act and take action and if you give them nothing to do, that will lead to bad or illegal behaviour. There’s a different truth to what is being taught at school, they’re being set up to fail. It’s not the way the world is and we have a responsibility to educate our youth. So be better, learn more and teach our youth that they are a valuable asset to society and they’re not the worst part, they’re actually the best part and if you can be the best version of yourself you can be, that benefits everyone.
BEST MOMENTS
“We need to stop labelling our children and our young people because they're listening. If you label someone something for long enough they’ll start to believe it.”
“Inside these groups, they have their own interests and things that they want to do, it’s a closed group of friends, like any other.”
