  • Inspire 10
How as a community we can go about making changes for our young people of today and those of the future together?
Garth explains the reasons he has created and is launching a campaign where we can come together make a difference and create a legacy – INSPIRE 10
Listen in to find out what it’s all about and what you can do!

    KEY TAKEAWAYS
My passion is to change the mindset and the opportunities for our young people.
There are people on the ground doing great work with young people and without them, the situation would be much worse.
There is a section of young people who we have lost, they are thinking differently, they are acting and behaving differently. They are playing by a different set of rules.
Nobody understands the in-between bit; they want to wake up tomorrow and have it all and we are beginning to see the fall out of this on our streets.
Society left them behind, so they had to create something for themselves and now society doesn’t like what they have created.
We’ve left them with no chances and no hope, with no opportunities to grow into the people they could be.
If everybody around our town, city, and country puts in £1 every month then it will be possible to buy, build and renovate buildings, making them suitable to be used for real-life education, learning that is the foundational knowledge for life.
    INSPIRE 10
I pledge £1 and inspire 10 people around me to pledge £1 a month and they in turn
INSPIRE 10 more people, the target I am aiming for is 1 million, a million people giving £1.
Let’s show our children that we care and mean business, that we love them £1 a month for a project that will provide a legacy that can be used in many years to come.

    BEST MOMENTS
‘We need to wake up  and say we care’
‘Our children are dying on the road while they talk about  Brexit’
‘Our children can’t cross between Hackney and Tottenham; they can’t go from North to South’
‘What example have we set them?’

  • Time 4 TV EASTER SPECIAL
‘That thing you want to do, someone else is out there doing it whilst you are watching television’
We all have 24 hours in the day and a choice about how to spend the time. Garth explores how the different ways people spend their time affects all aspects of their lives and achievements
Listen in to find out what questions you should be asking yourself and how you can make a change.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS
Lots of us say we don’t have enough time, but you need to think about the time that is available for you to use in your life.
Why is it you don’t have enough time to do the things you need and want to do?
Time gets taken up with many other things that you feel obligated to do or are programmed to do.
The only difference between you and someone who is successful is what they do with their time. We all only have 24hours in a day.
Television is a major distraction and huge amounts of the day are spent watching television. That time could be spent making a difference in your life and the lives of those around you.
Instead of investing your time in the actors and characters on the television you need to be involved in the lives and dreams of your own family and friends.
You could spend your time going out into the world and making someone happy.

    BEST MOMENTS
‘TV is making us all lazy, we are not being the best we can be’
‘I definitely don’t watch as much TV as I used to’
‘It squeezes out the time you want to spend on the things you enjoy’
‘How are the two of you going to be able to spend all of your future together if you spend no time together now’

  • Youth Crisis & Basic Human Needs
How many times have we heard from our parents how lucky we are that we get to eat three meals a day? Considering that there are kids who don’t get to satiate their hunger?
In this episode of the Truth 4 The Youth Podcast, Garth dives in on Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, one of the best-known theories of motivation. This theory helps us understand our inherent nature to meet our needs just to survive. Garth also touches on the topic of how parents/guardians sacrifice a lot to meet also their family’s needs and how third-world countries struggle to provide every individual’s needs. That is why he urges you to educate the youth to be more grateful and aware of what they are capable of to meet their own and others’ needs.
    KEY TAKEAWAYS
Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs states the needs of an individual. There are five levels which are often displayed as a pyramid. At the lowest level are our most basic needs while the most complex needs sit atop.
It gets challenging to satisfy an individual’s need as you go higher the pyramid. But for some people, especially in the third-world countries, it is already a struggle to meet their needs for food, water, clothing, and shelter.
As for breadwinners for families, they do everything, even beyond their means, just to provide for them. Sometimes, they put the other family members’ needs above theirs.
    BEST MOMENTS
“That’s a basic, and some of us take that for granted… but out there, there are some people, kids, who don’t have that luxury or that basic need.”
“Stop beating them down and saying how terrible they are. We have to start lifting them up and give them opportunities to meet their basic needs first and then they can go on to live the lives they deserve to live.”

  • Schooling System
Why do we have to memorise names and figures in class just to pass a test and knowing after that you won’t even have to use it to survive your everyday life?
In today’s episode of the Truth 4 The Youth Podcast, Garth slams on how crooked the traditional schooling system is. If we really value and prioritise the education of the students, then we must stray away from the set standards of the existing system. Let’s try to focus on what’s important – learning. It’s not the student’s problem because he is incapable, he has sickness, or he has learning disabilities. Teaching is a two-way thing. Educators should always ensure that their students learn, not just resort to the twisted grading system, and let a student completely fail. Discover more about what Garth has to say when you tune in.
    KEY TAKEAWAYS
The traditional schooling system has instilled that standing out of the competition and having power results in success. It’s all about getting out and graduating on top of the class by acing your examinations and having active participation in class.
Many of us have been persuaded by this belief, and thus have affected our childhood experience and relationships. Instead of initiating a healthy, cooperative, and helpful environment for each student, they chose to teach children to be go-getters that are detached to their feeling, their relationships, and their environment.
The pass or fail grading system does not correctly give credit to students’ achievements, correct their mistakes, and assures that they know what they think they know. Educators should concentrate on giving them assessments on how they took the exam. Analyse what they got wrong, crosscheck with their other mistakes if you have to, and reteach them about it. Above all, we should always encourage them to learn.
Most of the tests given by teachers are things that you won’t ever be used on a practical daily life of an individual living in reality. There’s no need to memorise the date when a statue was erected, any mathematical formula, or the scientific name of a particular species.
    BEST MOMENTS
“If I had learned what you said I was supposed to learn in the first place, then there’s no need to get near that[relearning].”
“Even if you pass… you passed what?”

  • Don’t live by the Reasons, Live by the Results
It’s not that simple to achieve a life of comfort. It does not happen in a snap.
    You have to move.
So, in this episode of the Truth 4 The Youth Podcast, Garth tells you why you shouldn’t live with reasons that hinder you and start living by the results that could happen. This helps you achieve your goal of a comfortable life. But do take note that the way leading to it is as not as convenient as you would want it. You have to remove all your insecurities, get out of your comfort zone, and do unfamiliar tasks. For once, stop making excuses and just go for it!
    KEY TAKEAWAYS
If you’ve got a goal, do everything you can to make it happen despite you not having the resources. Instead of making up reasons, do something about it. If you don’t have money, work for it. If you don’t have the skill set, start taking up courses.
If in any chance you need quick cash and you need to borrow money from someone else, be responsible enough to pay it on or before your promised date. So, you don’t end the trust you’ve already built in the relationship.
Nothing’s going to happen in your life if you keep making excuses. You have to set aside your insecurities and doubts; don’t let them affect you. Start filling your mind with positivity and the vision you want.
    BEST MOMENTS
“You can have reasons why you didn’t do it – a long list of them. You can keep going on and on and on… or you can have results.”
“Don’t live with reasons, live with reasons.”
“That’s your real true friend who wants to see the best of you.”

  • Connectivity
It’s ironic that in this hyperconnected world full of technologies, it’s still hard to truly experience human connections with people.
So, in this episode of the Truth 4 The Youth Podcast, Garth highlights the importance of connectivity – no, not the WIFI, Bluetooth, NFC, or whatever. We’ll be talking about the human connection and interaction, the one that’s pure and has existed way before technologies appeared.
Learn today how you can get your family to bond again to chitchat and laugh, just like always. Let’s admit it, it’s alarming how youth use the technologies so much.
    KEY TAKEAWAYS
Youth allot most of their time in social media. In public places, you see them taking a lot of selfies, tapping a lot, and their eyes are glued to their phones. They do this instead of enjoying the place and their company.
Almost every home has WIFI, it’s getting harder and harder to have movie nights, game nights, etc. with the whole family since everyone is distracted by their phones.
Parents should initiate bonding within the family, not through technologies, but something that you can talk with. Make sure that your family actually spends time on the human-to-human connection.
Another problem is kids use phones on the dining table instead of doing a catch up with the whole family. It has become very problematic.
    BEST MOMENTS
“The way the human race is going… we’re not moving forward in connectivity, we’re moving away from it. Everything is becoming more remote; everything is becoming more dehumanised.”
“Be there. Be present. Put down the devices.”

  • Rush Hour
Have you seen the conditions of our public transports lately? Especially in rush hour?
It’s total chaos! So, in this episode of the Truth 4 The Youth Podcast, Garth talks about rush hour phenomenon, a daily that most workers dread. You should know that you got a choice not to go through this and still earn income.
Ask yourself: Is it still worth it spending your time and energy to your workplace? Garth convinces you to explore the alternatives. You can work for yourself and use our commuting instead to more impactful things to prepare yourself for your future. He also calls on the authorities to address the issue of public transport during peak hours. Listen in to know more!
    KEY TAKEAWAYS
If your employers had your best interest at heart, they won’t let you waste an ample amount of your time and energy on travelling to and fro your work alone.
Garth emphasizes that a lot of workers are middle-class people who give the most of their lives to grow the ruling class’ corporates.
It’s ironic that you who does the nitty gritty stuff inside the company is the one who’s suffering from the subpar transportation. You have to commute to your workplace, get up early, spend money on a not so comfortable ride, and make sure that you aren’t late. While the CEO or the owner does not even dare to know his workers’ working and travelling conditions.
You have a choice. It’s up to you to judge if the time and energy you used up every single day is worth it for today and in the future. There are alternatives… you can choose to work for yourself and chase your true passion.
    BEST MOMENTS
“I wanna why so many people accept these standards of travel… these hours of travel… and the cost of the travel.”
“A good caring system, a good caring government feeling for its people would make the hours that time cheaper.”
“I need you to keep an eye on what’s going on… if they have your best interest at heart.”

  • #031 University; "The Myth"
We’ve been forced to believe that after getting a degree from a university, we land on a perfect job that will suit as well.
Is attending a university all a myth? In this episode of Truth 4 The Youth Podcast, Gordon gets controversial and makes you think hard if the university is something that could suit you, help you grow as an individual, and prepare you for the future.
Lucky you if it all works out for you. But what Gordon observes is the amount of job available could not cater to the number of students that graduate each year. If this isn’t the case, then the unemployment figures won’t be as they are. Let’s take a step back and look at the numbers shown to us. Should we still be enrolling in universities? Tune in to find out today.
    KEY TAKEAWAYS
There are thousands of students pursuing a degree in the university. But, by the time they graduate, there is no assurance that jobs will be a 1:1 ratio. The reality is less than a hundred positions, which are perfect for their knowledge and skill set, are only vacant.
Gordon thinks universities become a money-making place which burdens the young people who just want to learn, study, and get ready for their future.
Gordon also does not like the idea the ‘promise’ that comes with attending universities, after you graduate, you land the perfect job for you. That won’t always be the case.
Most graduates are deep into their debts. It becomes difficult for them to make ends meet. They get up to 3 jobs just to pay their student loans.
Gordon suggests that it’s better if, the required schooling, you experience what real life is – how to survive, how to make money, how to live alone, etc. After you’ve been immersed and settled on what you want to grow more from your skillset or your knowledge, then that’s the time you decide to go to a university.
    BEST MOMENTS
“If it is great and it so useful to you, then why is it not free?”
“There aren’t enough jobs. So, the question is… Is it a worthwhile endeavour going there?”
“Awaken your own genius. Do not waste your time trying to search for something else.”
“If you’re going to the university, know what you wanna do, stick to it, and make sure, as much as you can, it is something that you want to do.”
