Evil affections block people from accessing the Lord. Thus, before the Lord can appear to any man, such a man must be purged from their own affections. This is the preparation that makes a man ready to be joined to the Lord as a bride prepared for her groom. This principle is what the friend of the bridegroom embodies - the responsibility of the church.
