When the desires of men are carnal, they tend to appreciate suffering only on a carnal level. For this very reason, the sufferings of Jesus that made Him perfect as the captain of our salvation, is often misunderstood. To understand Jesus’s suffering, being the real suffering, we are called to emulate. Our focus should not be on the external humiliation which is possible because of our pride and selfishness. Real suffering involves self-denial; denial of hurt ego; denial of the feeling of offense; not allowing yourself to feel what you readily would feel, because of the Word of God. This is the suffering that has benefits.
In the Series, “The Purpose of Suffering”, Pastor Jeffrey Walter demonstrates why we cannot enter any spiritual blessing without suffering. In this episode, “The Dimensions of Suffering”, he describes what constitutes real suffering and the glory associated with it. In the process, he exposes pseudo-sufferings, which have no benefit.
This message seeks to point us to the real suffering which holds blessings.
