This podcast episode is read verbatim from my book, "The Feeling Better: A Faith Based Approach to Overcome Your Gambling Addiction" which is available on Amazon.
In this episode I'll be covering the four Battle Plans from the sixth week of the "10-4" Program:
Battle Plan – The Enemy’s Playbook: (You Are the Sum of Your Mistakes) The devil will do his best to convince you that you’re “bad” because of your gambling addiction. You may even be like I was, thinking that everything that goes wrong in your life or in your home is because of the mistakes you made and the losses you incurred. You probably have thoughts that karma will forever ruin your life and the lives of those you love. Don’t believe that. There is no truth in that kind of thinking whatsoever.
Battle Plan – God’s Intel: (Who You Are is Not What You Did) There is no such thing as karma. I’m going to say here (and this is totally tongue-in-cheek) that you aren’t the center of everyone else’s universe. I know that’s a shocker. God is the center of everyone’s universe. Guilt is a powerful emotion, I know. But who you are is not determined by what you did. And your future is not predicated on your mistakes. Stop looking at the things that happen to you or around you as having “cause and effect” based on your gambling addiction. Once you put it behind you, it’s behind you.
Battle Plan – Weaponry: (A Real Bible) While it’s totally fine to use your Bible app or to read online or even listen to the Bible, nothing illuminates God’s words like reading it for yourself with a physical Bible. You’ll be stepping up your game by doing this. Get yourself one. If you can’t get one or can’t afford one, go to the “Resources” page of my website and order one there for free. When you get it (or if you already have one) make some time every morning or every evening to sit down in a quiet place and read. Start with Matthew and work your way forward. Don’t forget to pray first that God will speak to you through His word.
Battle Plan – Armor: (Fixing Adrenal Fatigue) When we gamble, adrenaline rush is very real. It not only distracts us from the pain we feel both mentally and physically, but it also distracts us from the pain of losing money. When your adrenaline levels are high for an extended period of time day after day, it takes a huge toll on the body resulting in a breakdown of your immune system and several noticeably harmful symptoms. You may have even experienced true, physical shock after playing. Follow the steps I outlined to help ease your body into more normal, peaceful levels of existence, and don’t be afraid to do your own research.
