This podcast episode is read verbatim from my book, "The Feeling Better: A Faith Based Approach to Overcome Your Gambling Addiction" which is available on Amazon.
In this episode I'll be covering the four Battle Plans from the eighth week of the "10-4" Program:
Battle Plan – The Enemy’s Playbook: (You Are Weak) Satan’s going to try to trip you up. It may be when you least expect it, or with something that’s going to feel almost too tempting to ignore. Your enemy thinks you’re weak, that you don’t have the strength to stand up to his taunting. He might even have you convinced that you really are weak. Don’t believe it! You’ve made some huge strides, and you now know what his game plan is. Whether it's this week or next, or a year from now, or five years from now, if the urge to gamble strikes or you find yourself slipping, hold fast… stand firm… and be strong. You are NOT weak!
Battle Plan – God’s Intel: (You Are Strong) You might make the mistake I did and think that once you began recovery and got several weeks into it, the urges will leave you. They probably won’t. But here’s the secret to resisting temptation and being strong: lean on God. Let Him fight on your behalf. Remember that He’s there in the stronghold with you. Satan cannot defeat God, which means he cannot defeat you if you stand close to God. I want to remind you again, my bros and sisters, that you are NOT weak! You are strong. It’s not worth the misery and pain to fall for Satan’s lies. You’ll only fall back into the pit. I know you don’t want that.
Battle Plan – Weaponry: (Become a Listener) Discover a whole new world with audiobooks! You’ll be amazed at what you can find out there. I promise, there are audiobooks for everyone, regardless of how little you might have enjoyed books in the past. If you need recommendations, go to your nearest library and chat with a librarian. Or email me. I have listened to hundreds, maybe even thousands of audiobooks in my lifetime. I’ll be glad to give you a recommendation based on what you’d like to listen to.
Battle Plan – Armor: (Don’t Be Sedentary) If you have a desk or computer job like me, you will greatly increase your physical and mental resiliency if you get up and move every couple of hours. Set your own alarm, or even schedule it in your calendar. It will help refresh and stimulate you when you’re feeling lethargic or tired, which keeps you from wanting more caffeine. See how that works? I’ve often gone hours in front of the computer without moving, but since I started setting my alarm and forcing myself to get up and move, I’ve felt a huge difference in my mood and energy levels.
