There is not a single experience that comes close to the initiation that happens to a woman after giving birth. It's in those first 40 days that every single layer of our existence breaks open, in order for us to grow into our new form. 

Nothing about it is romantic or gentle. It's so raw and real; there's no avoiding.

It’s something I would compare to drinking Ayahuasca 24/7 for 40 days straight. Some days I was in pure ecstatic bliss. And some days I was confronted with parts of myself that had remained hidden. 

It was so confronting, so profound, I have no words to really explain what it is like. And yet... I felt called to at least try to give it voice. Simply because it's a subject that is so taboo, it has shocked me.

If anything, we should be talking about this more openly. So that women approaching this initiation are better prepared than most of us are.
