Although Pidgey is mostly harmless, Pidgeotto is entirely the opposite. Due to its ability to conjure up devastating whirlwinds, it's recommended that you train your Pidgeotto outdoors or you too might be impaled by a flying pencil... RIP Mr. Kurtis' foot.
