Testing Our Faith & Obedience to God

(Genesis 22:1-18) 
 
 

1. Abrams journey of faith (review of Genesis chapters 12-21)

A. (Gen 15:6) "Abraham believed the Lord and God counted it to him as righteousness."

B. (Gen  12:7; 15:18-20) "to your (Abraham's) offspring, I (God) give this l and..."

C. (Gen 17:4) "Behold My Covenant is with you, and you shall be the father of a 
 multitude of nations."

D. (Gen 17:18-19, 21) "I (God) will establish my covenant with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you."

2. God tests Abraham’s faith (Genesis 22:1-18) 

A. Know the difference between "temptation" (to sin), and "tests/trials" (used by God to increase our trust in Him, which is ultimately best for us)

B. How does this true story point us to Jesus?

® Only son (22:2; John 3:16); miracle baby (Gen 18:14; Luke 1:37); 3 days (v.4; 1 Cor 15:3-4); "resurrection" (v.5; Heb 11:17-19); Isaac carries "wood" for
 sacrifice (v.6; John 19:17); "God will provide for Himself, the lamb..." (v.8); Mount Moriah- "Mt. of Myrrh" (2 Chron 3:1).

® Isaac's life spared - Abraham passes the faith test! God provides a substitute sacrifice "instead of his son." (v.13; John 1:29; Isa 53:4-6; 2 Cor 5:21)

® "in your offspring all the nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice." (v. 18; Rev 7:9)

 obedience to God and His will for your life?
