This year, several provincial governments are reporting a budget surplus due to pre-mature retirements of doctors, with many doctors citing burn out, Covid-19 and income constraints as the cause of their retirement.
So it’s no wonder that wait times are increasing, and medical specialties are in demand.
In response, , many experts are recommending a reduction of doctor’s dues and licenses and other overhead that may be contributing to these income constraints. Experts feel this may inspire longer working life spans in doctors.
The natural question is if this is enough, and should doctors be able to get lower practicing fees, just to continue practicing, especially when one considers that doctors are one of the higher paying professions.
