022: Best Marketing Technique In 2020

Marketing techniques come and go. There's paid advertising, YouTube, Instagram and Facebook advertising and SEO and SEM. New techniques are always surfacing and as times change, so should your approach. 2020 has indeed been a confusing year, especially with the recent news involving Covid-19 which has changed practically everything. However, I am certain that this is the best marketing technique in 2020.

Before we move on, however, you have to understand the three different types of traffic.

Paid Traffic

This is traffic which you pay for. There are different platforms you can pay to, such as Facebook or Google to blast your content and put it out there. While there is guaranteed results, since you pay for it, it is not sustainable as this means that you would have to keep paying to get the same kind of results everytime. Also, people can tell that your traffic is paid and oftentimes, paid traffic do not give off a very good impression.

People will feel as if you needed to pay to get anyone to look at you.

Earned Traffic

Earned traffic is traffic that you (you guessed it!) earned. This kind of traffic can refer to your SEO ranking or Google map ranking. When your rankings are higher, it means that when people search for a keyword that relates to your business, mentions of your business will pop up higher up the list.

If you ranked super high, you would be on the first page of Google search.

This kind of traffic is really great. However, it would take you a long time and extensive work to reach that level.

Owned Traffic

This traffic is traffic that you own. This means that you already have a method to reach these people, such as your email list or your followers on Facebook and Instagram. You can easily reach out to them and market to them for free.

Again, this traffic needs to be slowly amassed.

Which Should You Pick?

After understanding the three types of traffic, you might be wondering, which is best?

While it's great to try to implement every kind of traffic, provided you have the manpower and time, there is one that's a little trickier - paid traffic.

If you wish to do paid traffic, ensure that your paid traffic will give you 2x ROI (Return on Investment). If you're paying $1, make sure you get a return of $2. This way, you aren't wasting your money.

If you paid $20 to get leads and maybe 10 people respond to your ad and sign up, probably only 4 or 5 people would end up closing the deal with you. The amount of money you earn from closing the deals would have to surpass the $20 you spend, in order for your investment to be worth it.

If you think it's risky, there is something that you can try - personal branding. You're right if you're thinking this is a never-ending price war, because keywords, ads and influencer marketing prices is constantly on the rise. Everybody wants to be on the front page and everyone is willing to pay for it, but if you have personal branding, you would've secured a spot for yourself without paying a cent.

Focus on paid traffic first, while you build your personal brand, then you can create a system for yourself and gain a better understanding of your audience, practicing earned and owned traffic.

This is truly the best marketing technique in 2020 that many will not do, because it involves people putting themselves out there but if you are 100% confident in your product and service, you should be your biggest advocate. Work on your personal brand today.
