In this episode of Becoming Super Podcast, Scott and Angelica discuss how to handle criticism. Too often we can let the negative words of someone crush our goals, spirit, or determination. We can let it ruin our day or even a dream forever. Before you take criticism to heart and let it affect you, think through the following.
First, who is it coming from? Is it someone who loves and cares about you, and wants the best for you?
Or is it someone who is just trying to be negative, or a complete stranger?
Second, what is their relation to the criticism they are giving you?
If you wouldn't take advice from someone, don't take criticism from them.
Even if they are coming from a good place, if they haven't been where you're going, don't give their criticism much weight…a doctor can't give you guidance on becoming an engineer.
Lastly, if you've determined they are well intentioned and qualified to give you criticism (such as a mentor or coach), take a step back and evaluate what they said. What might you need to change or improve in order to achieve what you're looking to do?
Also remember that constructive criticism is there to help you improve and grow - take it and learn from it.
If it's just negative criticism meant to tear you down, let it roll off your back.
