Originally from Bosnia, Sabina immigrated to the U.S. as a war refugee, and started her professional career in theatre. She’s best known for her feature documentary BACK TO BOSNIA (2005 AFI Fest / Director’s Choice, 2006 Crossroads FF). Most recently she co-directed a Warner Bros./USC feature period drama VOODOO MACBETH, and wrote/directed the Alfred P. Sloan-winning short VARIABLES (2019 Sarajevo Film Festival), which won the DGA Student Film Awards Grand Prize, and was a Student Academy Award Semifinalist and HUMANITAS Prize Finalist. She also assisted writer/director Max Mayer on his feature debut ADAM, starring Hugh Dancy and Rose Byrne (2009 Sundance). She's currently in development on FOR BURAZ - a feature neo-noir mystery/drama set in Florida's Bosnian immigrant community, which was the 2018 Austin Film Festival Second Rounder.
Sabina’s an Annenberg Scholar, a member of Film Fatales and Women in Film, and was recently selected for the Ryan Murphy Half Directing Mentorship, the Nantucket Screenwriters Colony, and the Stowe Story Labs, where she won the Tangerine Entertainment Fellowship. She received her M.F.A. from USC School of Cinematic Arts.
