In this Hispanic Heritage Month Edition episode, Luis speaks with Carlosluis Perez. Carlosluis is a first-generation college graduate. He was born in Washington Heights in NYC, grew up in the Dominican Republic and returned to New York at the age of 15. He is passionate about college access and has spent the last ten years helping students gain admissions to some of the top colleges and universities in the country. Carlosluis started off his college education at the Borough of Manhattan Community College, where he earned an Associates in Business Administration. He then transferred to The City College of New York, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology while working part time as a College Counselor for recent immigrants. 

After completing his undergraduate education, Carlosluis joined the New York University College Advising Corps as he worked on his Master of Social Work at NYU. During the years that followed, Carlosluis worked his way up to becoming a Director of College Counseling at a high school in the South Bronx. Carlosluis transitioned to KIPP NYC College Prep three years ago, where he works as a College Counselor. In addition, Carlosluis is currently pursuing a EDD in Higher Education Administration and Student Affairs at New York University. When he is not advocating for his students, Carlosluis is traveling the world, exploring NYC, or trying out a new restaurant.
