5 Key Takeaways:
If you don’t define your own idea of success, someone else will define your path for you. It can be very easy to get pushed into bowing down to someone else’s version of success.
Objective metrics of success: money in your bank account, job titles, salaries, personal achievements, where you went to school. These metrics do not determine how happy and fulfilled you are in your life.
Subjective metrics of success give you an idea of your happiness and fulfillment levels. These include: having a level of satisfaction with your life, doing meaningful work, being excited to wake up every morning, and experiencing joy in your work and your relationships.
There is nothing wrong with pursuing objective metrics of success. However, it should not be the only thing you value. Without subjective metrics of success, it is extremely challenging to live happily.
Success is not defined by the material things you have, but the kind of life that you lead.
