Alexey Kondrashov is a professor of evolutionary biology at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor studying mutation process, winner of the first mega-grant competition in 2010, founder and head of the evolutionary genomics laboratory at the Faculty of Bioengineering and Bioinformatics, Moscow State University. He is best known for the deterministic mutation hypothesis explaining the maintenance of sexual reproduction, his work on sympatric speciation, and his work on evaluating mutation rates.
