06: Redefining Womanhood: Joy, Rest and Safety

Listen Later

In this special Women’s Day episode of Open Heart Conversations, I’m opening up about my journey into womanhood—what it’s meant for me, and how it’s shaped who I am today. Growing up, I was surrounded by strong, nurturing women who modeled hard work and self-sacrifice. This upbringing taught me that being a woman often meant putting others before myself and constantly striving to provide and care for those around me.

Now, at 29, I’m feeling the weight of that mindset, and I’ve realized that the exhaustion I’m experiencing isn’t just my own—it’s generational. I’m at a point where I feel a deep responsibility to break the cycle of endless giving without receiving, to reclaim joy, rest, and self-care not just for myself but for those who come after me.

In this episode, I also want to touch on the idea of safety as a young Black woman living in South Africa. I’ll explore what safety looks like, where we can find it, and how we can create safe spaces for ourselves—whether it’s emotional, financial, or physical safety. It’s a conversation that’s close to my heart, and I hope it encourages you to reflect on your own experiences and how you navigate these aspects of your life.

Join me as I unpack what it really means to be a woman today, to prioritize our well-being, and to create a life where joy, rest, and safety are not just afterthoughts.
