The use of comedy in treating patients sounds impossible, right? I mean, how do you make jokes about someone else's pain and worries? Well, today, we demystify that and learn that comedy is healing medicine.
In today's episode, we are honored to have Dr. Brian Kaplan, a qualified doctor practicing the use of reverse psychology and humor in psychotherapy. He attended a medical school where he was taught how to treat diseases and practiced whole-person-oriented medicine, which he enjoyed as he was always looking for a chance to smile and lift people through provocative therapy.
Dr. Brian got to appreciate the use of jokes to help patients when he attended a seminar. The facilitator explained the importance of taking sides with the patient or client instead of siding with their problem as it gets them defensive. He also appreciated that most therapy depends on its quality, and the results depend on three inherent qualities of the psychotherapist: authenticity, empathy, and unconditional positive regard.
With several years of practice, he confidently believes that laughter and smile attract optimism and a higher vibration which are sources of creativity and a guarantee to a longer life.
