This week, we talk to Waveny LifeCare Network Board President Kathleen Corbet and president and CEO Russ Barksdale Jr. about the nonprofit organization’s proposal to build an independent senior living facility on Oenoke Ridge. Available for view as a to-scale model in the lower of Town Hall, the proposed facility has been before the Planning & Zoning Commission since last summer, first in an informational session and then, more recently, for three rather lengthy and impassioned public hearings.
This week, we meet up with Kara and Rebecca Kimball of Combine-X Fitness. A 2004 New Canaan High School graduate, Rebecca in August acquired Oxygen Fitness on Pine Street and there installed her own local business, which already had been rapidly growing in New Canaan for two years. A personal trainer, sports conditioning specialist and group fitness instructor for more than 12 years, Rebecca quickly brought in her trusted older sister Kara, a 2002 NCHS graduate, to help manage the business. We talk about how Combine-X Fitness came about, why it made sense to take over the Oxygen space and what it’s like for the sisters to work together in their hometown.
This week, we talk to lifelong resident Leo Karl III, one member of a group that formed a year ago to ensure that one of New Canaan's beloved annual traditions—Christmas Eve caroling at God's Acre—continues.
This week, we talk to Olivia and Sheri West, the mother-daughter team behind one of New Canaan’s best stories in recent years. LiveGirl is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to “empower and equip the next generation of brave, inclusive leaders with the skills, community, and connections so that all girls may thrive and make a positive impact on the world.” The Wests recently launched a biweekly podcast called “Confident,” and it’s terrific—in the new episode they interview state Sen. Alex Bergstein.
