I talked about Copy and Content in episode 5, but I have so much more to say about copywriting specifically. It’s not necessarily a skill that all good writers have. I believe that creating great copy is all about how you approach your clients, their problems, and the solutions. I’m excited to share what I believe are the essentials for creating great copy.
Show Highlights:
[04:00] Your ability to write great copy isn't based on being a great writer. It's really about how you approach your clients, their problems, and the solution.
[07:39] Common questions include: Should I plan my copy in advance? What tools should I use? What should I regularly post? What should I talk about? How often should I post? How to not be too salesy.
[09:01] These are the wrong questions to ask, because they come from a place of lack.
[09:55] Content is meant to create value or help for your audience.
[13:17] Planning every meticulous detail works for corporate but not a personal brand on social media. The reason why it doesn't work is overthinking.
[15:36] Focus on batching your ideas and thoughts at one time. Create copy and content from a place of feeling inspired and being aligned. Look back on your ideas and create copy from a place of feeling really inspired.
[16:24] 1. Get clarity on your process for getting results. At the highest level, what are the three or four steps that I would walk a client through to achieve their desired result?
[17:47] With my business, the high level steps are presence, clarity, conversion, and CEO mindset.
[19:22] 2. Pull up a blank Google document and make each high-level step a heading.
[20:22] Choose one and ask what you would share, showing up in full service, if you were unattached from any outcome and staying in full belief that you could help him or her.
[21:11] Set a timer for 20 minutes and let your fingers fly across the keyboard.
[22:33] This method works because you are coming from an idea to make copy easier as opposed to just getting it done.
[23:19] When I want to post something, I go into my copy library and find what I'm compelled to write about.
[24:48] Call to action: Block some time on your calendar to practice this. Let me know if this was helpful to you.
