Injustice and guilt are behind many supernatural stories. Spirits from the past return to enact revenge on the living for horrific and evil acts in many classic tales. And even though these are scary stories, there’s something comforting about that. Because these stories are a kind of wish fulfilment. We hope that the cosmos can unleash retribution upon those who have acted against us and others. That no one ever really gets away with their crimes. Perhaps this true account proves that to be true.
