Reel Filthy - issue 152
October 2019... A defeated Mac & Sam slump down in their gamer chairs as they click stop. Mac stares at the dead pixels on his ancient laptop screen. Sam notices Macs blank stare, presuming that Mac is simply thinking about those Metal Gear "Why are we still here?" memes, it's only reasonable with Todd Phillips 'Joker' still fresh in mind. "I need time", says Mac. "What for?" replies Sam, rolling his eyes waiting for his weed addict friend to once again say the fabled words. "It's ogre". Sam's arse finally slips off the edge of his seat from the build-up of Dorito dust that has eliminated friction. "Bit dramatic bro", states Mac now rolling his eyes in disgust at Sam's tomfoolery, so cliche right fhellas? Anyway, that was it, an era had ended, they'd reached the fabled triple-figure listener's many moons before, done and dusted 100 episodes, so what's the bloody point now eh? The passion had disappeared since they realised they hadn't gotten the get patrons quick scheme they thought they had. But Filme ain't about the money, it's about the art, and after many months of lockdown boredom, Mac n Sam are about ready to bring back some high art into your meaningless lives. We're back baby, with a new coat of paint and an old pal who might come on every now and then that the hardcores will know. And this time, it's personal.
This episode, we discuss the 60's era of Spaghetti Westerns in "Man with No Name Trilogy", i.e. the Clint Eastwood starring Westerns; A Fistful of Dollars; For a Few Dollars More; The Good, The Bad and The Ugly; along with Sergio Leone's 4th Western classic, Once Upon a Time in the West. "And maybe Unforgiven? Look, life is hard okay, my milk was delivered by a guy in a bomb disposal suit. Have a listen and figure it out for yourself. Why am I doing all the work for you?" - Sam (2020)
