현 추세가 계속된다면 20대 초반 한국인 5명 중 1명 이상은 결코 배우자를 만나지 못할 수 있는 것으로 한 연구조사에서 나타났다. 한국보건사회연구원이 발표한 연구조사에 따르면， 2010년 20세 남성 24%와 여성 19% 정도가 45세까지 미혼으로 남을 것으로 보인다.
