Prank call from overseas

私の実家には、まだ家電があるのですが、

帰るたび必ずと言っていいほど、いたずら電話がかかってきます。

しかも、海外からの電話が多いです。

お年寄りの家にはよく家電があるので、海外からの電話を受けて

詐欺にあうことが多いそうです。

皆さんの家には、家電がありますか？

わたしの じっかには まだ いえでんが あるのですが、

かえるたび かならずと いっていいほど、いたずらでんわが かかってきます。

しかも かいがいからの でんわが おおいです。

おとしよりの いえには よく いえでんがあるので、

かいがいからの でんわを うけて さぎに あうことが おおいそうです。

みなさんの いえには いえでんが ありますか？

My parents' house still has a landline,

and every time I visit, I almost always get prank calls.

Most of them are from overseas, too.

Since landlines are common in elderly homes,

it seems many fall victim to scams when receiving international calls.

Funiculi Funicla = Oni no pantsu👹🩲

先週、節分と鬼の話をしましたが、鬼といえば、

日本人のDNAに刻み込まれている歌があります。

それは鬼のパンツという曲です。

「鬼のパンツはいいパンツ、強いぞ」という歌詞で、

日本人が子供のときに、よく習う歌の一つです。

これをなぜか「フニクリフニクラ」という有名な曲の

メロディで歌います。

なので、私はフニクリフニクラを聞くと、

いつも鬼のパンツを思い出します😂

せんしゅう せつぶんと おにの はなしを しましたが、おにといえば、

にほんじんの DNAに きざみこまれている うたが あります。

それは おにの ぱんつ という きょくです。

「おにの ぱんつは いい ぱんつ、つよいぞ」という かしで、

にほんじんが こどものときに、よく ならう うたの ひとつです。

これを なぜか「ふにくり ふにくら」という ゆうめいな きょくの

めろでぃで うたいます。

なので、わたしは ふにくり ふにくらを きくと、

いつも おにの ぱんつを おもいだします。

Last week I talked about Setsubun and demons,

and speaking of demons, there's a song imprinted on the Japanese DNA.

It's called “Oni no Pantsu” (Demon's Pants).

The lyrics go, “Oni no Pantsu wa Ii Pantsu, Tsuyoi zo!”

(“Demon's pants are great pants, they're strong!”),

and it's one of the songs Japanese people often learn as children.

For some reason, we sing it to the melody of the famous song

“Funiculi Funicula.”

So whenever I hear Funiculi Funicula,

I always remember Oni no Pantsu 😂

Demons out, fortunes in

2月3日は節分です。

皆さんもご存知かもしれませんが、節分には「鬼は外、福は内」

と言いながら豆をまきます。

でも、栃木県にある最勝寺というお寺では、

豆をまくとき「福は内」だけ言うそうです。

最勝寺には、鬼を改心させる「毘沙門天」という神様がいて、

鬼を外に出さず、毘沙門天の前で改心させるために

「福は内」だけを言うそうです。

にがつ みっかは せつぶんです。

みなさんも ごぞんじかも しれませんが、

せつぶんには「おにはそと、ふくはうち」といいながら まめを まきます。

でも とちぎけんにある さいしょうじ という おてらでは、

まめを まくとき「ふくは うち」だけ いうそうです。

さいしょうじには おにを かいしんさせる「びしゃもんてん」という

かみさまがいて、おにを そとに ださず、びしゃもんてんの まえで

かいしんさせるために 「ふくはうち」だけを いうそうです。

February 3rd is Setsubun.

As you may know, on Setsubun, people throw beans

while chanting “Demons out, fortune in!”

However, at Saishōji Temple in Tochigi Prefecture,

they say only “Good fortune in!” when throwing beans.

Saishōji worships Bishamonten, who reforms demons.

So they say only “Good fortune in!” to reform demons

in front of Bishamonten rather than kicking them out.

E-money offerings⛩️

神社やお寺でお祈りをするとき、お金を箱の中に入れる

「お賽銭」をするのが 一般的です。

でも、最近は電子マネーでお賽銭ができるところが

増えてきているそうです。

現金を持たない人が増えた、という理由だけでなく、

最近銀行手数料が変わって、小銭をたくさん銀行に預けると、

大金がかかってしまうという理由もあるそうです。

私はまだ、電子マネーが使えるところを見たことがありませんが、

皆さんはどうですか？

じんじゃや おてらで おいのりを するとき、

おかねを はこの なかに いれる「おさいせん」をするのが

いっぱんてきです。

でも、さいきんは でんし まねーで おさいせんが できる ところが

ふえてきているそうです。

げんきんを もたないひとが ふえたという りゆうだけでなく、

さいきん ぎんこう てすうりょうが かわって、こぜにを たくさん

ぎんこうに あずけると、たいきんが かかってしまうから、

という りゆうも あるそうです。

わたしは まだ でんしまねーが つかえる ところを みたことが

ありませんが、みなさんは どうですか？

When praying at shrines or temples, it's common to make an offering

by placing money in a box.

But apparently, more shrines or temples are now accepting

e-money for offerings.

This isn't just because more people don’t carry cash,

but also because there was a recent change in bank fees

and it costs a lot to deposit a lot of coins into a bank account.

I haven't seen any places accepting electronic money yet,

but how about you?

Fuku-otoko🏃‍♂️

毎年1月10日、兵庫県の西宮神社で、

福男選びというイベントがあります。

えびす様という神様の力が一番強くなる1月10日に、

一番先にお参りをして、福をもらいたいと思った人々が、

競争し始めたのが始まりだそうです。

朝6時に門が開くと同時に、230mの道を全速力で走り、

1番になった人が、その年の福男になります。

まいとし いちがつ とおか、ひょうごけんの にしのみや じんじゃで

ふくおとこ えらび という いべんとが あります。

えびすさま という かみさまの ちからが いちばん つよくなる

いちがつ とおかに、いちばん さきに おまいりをして

ふくを もらいたいと おもった ひとびとが、

きょうそうしはじめたのが はじまり だそうです。

あさ ろくじに もんが ひらくと どうじに、にひゃくさんじゅう めーとるの

みちを ぜんそくりょくで はしり、

いちばんに なった ひとが その としの ふくおとこに なります。

Every January 10th, Nishinomiya Shrine in Hyogo Prefecture

holds an event called the Lucky Man Selection.

It is said this is the beginning of the event:

On January 10th which is the day when the power

of the god Ebisu become the strongest,

people who wanted to pray first and receive blessings

began racing each other. (Back in Edo era, 1603-1868)

At 6am sharp when the gates open, they sprint full speed

down a 230-meter path, and the first person to reach the end

becomes that year's Lucky Man.

Ice sculptures in Meiji jinguu

週末に、明治神宮に氷の彫刻展を見に行きました。

インスタでたまたま見て、写真があまりにもきれいだったので

わくわくして出かけました。

でもあいにく、この前の週末は暖かく、

私が着いた3時頃には溶けてしまっていて、

繊細な部分があまり見ることができませんでした。

毎年やっているみたいなので、来年は早めに行ってリベンジします🔥

しゅうまつに、めいじ じんぐうに

こおりの ちょうこくてんを みにいきました。

いんすたで たまたま みて、しゃしんが あまりにも きれいだったので

わくわくして でかけました。

でも あいにく、このまえの しゅうまつは あたたかく、

わたしが ついた さんじごろには とけて しまっていて、

せんさいな ぶぶんが あまり みることができませんでした。

まいとし やっている みたいなので、

らいねんは はやめに いって りべんじします。

Over the weekend, I went to see

the ice sculpture exhibiton at Meiji Shrine.

I happened to see it on Instagram,

and the photos were so beautiful that I was excited to go.

Unfortunately, it was warm that weekend,

and by the time I arrived around 3pm,

the sculptures had started melting,

so I couldn't see the delicate details very well.

Apparently they hold this event every year,

so next year I'll go earlier and get my revenge.

Do you pack light or heavy?

皆さんは旅行に行くとき、荷物が少ないですか？多いですか？

私は、少なくしたいのですが結局多くなってしまいます。

寒かったらどうしよう、ああなったらどうしよう、

と考えることが多く、結局荷物が多くなります。

機内持ち込みのスーツケースだけで、旅行に行く人に憧れますが、

皆さんはどうですか？

みなさんは りょこうに いくとき、

にもつが すくないですか？おおいですか？

わたしは、すくなくしたいのですが けっきょく おおくなってしまいます。

さむかったら どうしよう、ああなったら どうしよう、

と かんがえることが おおく、けっきょく にもつが おおくなります。

きない もちこみの すーつけーすだけで、りょこうに いく ひとに

あこがれますが、みなさんは どうですか？

When you go on trips, do you pack light or heavy?

I want to pack light, but I always end up with too much.

I worry about what if it gets cold, or what if that happens,

always leads to more luggage.

I admire people who travel with just a carry-on suitcase.

Ehime is the next must-go destination?!

2025年、海外からの観光客の増加率が一番多かったのは、

四国にある愛媛県だったそうです。

特に、韓国・台湾・中国から来る方が多いようで、

道後温泉、すしえもんというお店の回転寿司、

パンメゾンというお店の塩パンが人気だそうです。

愛媛県は気候がいいことでも知られています。

次の旅行先の候補としてどうでしょうか？

にせん にじゅうごねん、かいがいからの かんこうきゃくの

ぞうかりつが いちばん おおかったのは、

しこくにある えひめけん だったそうです。

とくに、かんこく・たいわん・ちゅうごくから くるかたが おおいようで、

どうごおんせん、すしえもんという おみせの かいてんずし、

ぱんめぞんという おみせの しおぱんが にんきだそうです。

えひめけんは きこうが いいことでも しられています。

つぎの りょこうさきの こうほとして どうでしょうか？

Apparently, visitors from South Korea, Taiwan,

and China were particularly numerous,

and Dogo Onsen hot springs, the conveyor-belt

sushi restaurant Sushiemon, and the salt bread

from the bakery Pan Maison are especially popular.

Ehime is also known for its pleasant climate.

Maneki-neko in Gotokuji in Tokyo

今、東京にある豪徳寺が海外の方に大人気だそうです。

豪徳寺は、招き猫の発祥の地と言われています。

昔お寺の前を通りかかったお殿様が、猫に手招きされたので

お寺に入りました。すると、大きな雷が鳴り大雨が降ってきました。

お殿様は猫のおかげでそれを避けられたそうです。

お殿様は感動し、お寺に寄付をし、猫は幸運の象徴として

お寺に飾られるようになったそうです。

いま、とうきょうに ある ごうとくじが

かいがいの かたに だいにんきだそうです。

ごうとくじは、まねきねこの はっしょうの ちと いわれています。

むかし おてらの まえを とおりかかった おとのさまが、

ねこに てまねきされたので おてらに はいりました。

すると、おおきな かみなりが なり おおあめが ふってきました。

おとのさまは ねこの おかげで それを さけられたそうです。

おとのさまは かんどうし、おてらに きふをし、ねこは こううんの

しょうちょうとして おてらに かざられるように なったそうです。

Gotokuji Temple in Tokyo is apparently very popular

with overseas visitors these days.

Gotokuji is said to be the origin of maneki neko.

Long ago, a surgent passing by the temple was beckoned by a cat,

so he entered the temple. Then, a huge thunder sounded and

a heavy rain began to fall.

It is said the surgent avoided the storm thanks to the cat.

Deeply moved, the surgent made a donation to the temple,

and the cat came to be displayed there

as a symbol of good fortune.

Croissant oden!

皆さんは、おでんを食べたことがありますか？

こないだ、浅草寺の屋台でクロワッサンのおでんを食べました。

私は、和風のスープにパンを浸して食べるのが好きなので、

クロワッサンおでんもおいしいかなと思ったのですが、

ちょっと柔らかくなりすぎていて、思った程美味しくありませんでした😂

次は、出汁とクロワッサンを別々に頼んでみたいと思います。

みなさんは、おでんを たべたことが ありますか？

こないだ、せんそうじの やたいで

くろわっさんの おでんを たべました。

わたしは、わふうの すーぷに ぱんを ひたして たべるのが すきなので、

くろわっさん おでんも おいしいかなと おもったのですが、

ちょっと やわらかくなりすぎていて、おもったほど

おいしくありませんでした。

つぎは、だしと くろわっさんを べつべつに たのんでみたいとおもいます。

Have you ever tried oden?

The other day, I had croissant oden at a food stall in Sensoji Temple.

Since I love dipping bread into Japanese-style soup,

I thought croissant oden might be tasty too,

but it got a bit too soft and wasn't as delicious as I'd hoped.

Next time, I think I'll order the broth and croissant separately.
