Application Questions Community Groups meet throughout the week and play a crucial role in our response to the preaching of the word. These groups gather to discuss the following questions as we seek to apply the sermon in community with one another. Please visit compassntx.org to join a small group near you.
1. Read 1 Peter 2:21 and Philippians 1:29. In what ways have you suffered as a Christian, and how has that suffering benefited your relationship with Christ?
2. Read 1 Peter 2:22-23. Is there ever an appropriate time for a Christian to retaliate? How can a Christian follow Christ's example without becoming a doormat for the world?
3. Read 1 Peter 2:22-23 and Psalm 139:1-6. How does knowing that God is fully aware of your suffering comfort you as you seek to patiently endure like Jesus?
4. Read 1 Peter 2:23 and Revelation 21:4. How would passages like these assist you in responding to someone who believes God is cruel, knowing that His children are suffering but not intervening to provide relief?
5. Read 1 Peter 2:24 and James 2:14-19. How are these two passages related? In other words, how does the relationship of faith and works, which James talks about, relate to the purpose of Jesus' death from 1 Peter 2:24?
6. Read 1 Peter 2:24-25. What are some sinful responses to suffering that you need to die to, and what are the positive responses that you need to embrace?
