Churches rarely die all at once; they fade when disciples stop making disciples. And for many Christians, that tension lands in the same place every time: fear, hesitation, and the temptation to let someone else speak for Christ.

Paul’s example in 1 Corinthians 2 forces the issue down to the level of ordinary obedience. This message presses past polish, personality, and technique to ask what actually makes evangelism effective, and why weakness may be less of a barrier than we think. Along the way, it confronts delay, Christian jargon, fear of rejection, and the subtle habit of resting confidence in human ability instead of God’s power. Plenty of things compete to define you: success, family, reputation, failure, even your own past. But if the most important thing about you is whether or not you are in Christ, every other identity has to move down the list.

We assume the people who matter most are the people with influence, pedigree, and power. But the gospel confronts that instinct by showing that God saves in a way that leaves no room for human boasting.

Walking through 1 Corinthians 1:26–29, this message turns our attention away from status and back to grace. It traces the kind of people God chooses, the way He overturns the world’s wisdom, and the reason He does it that way: so that all the glory belongs to Him. Along the way, it challenges the listener to stop measuring life by worldly categories and to remember that grace is not only what saves us, but what sustains us. The world looks at Christians and sees a group of wise fools, people staking everything on a 2,000-year-old book and a Savior who died as a criminal between two thieves. And according to Scripture, that misunderstanding is not an accident.

Paul tells the Corinthians that the world's failure to reason its way to God is exactly what God intended. The Jews demanded signs, the Greeks demanded wisdom, and both got a crucified Messiah instead. This message walks through why God frustrates human wisdom, what the cross exposes about every other path to God, and why the church so often falls silent in front of a world that calls the gospel moronic. If the gospel is the one thing that can pull people out of the wreck they are in, why are we standing by watching them try everything else?

You want your neighbor to hear the gospel, so you round off the hard edges. Hell doesn't come up. Neither does the part where your Savior hung naked on a cross. That feels like wisdom. Paul calls it emptying the cross of its power.

The Corinthians had the same instinct. They wanted Paul to dress the message up for people who prized eloquence, to give them something closer to a TED Talk. He told them he couldn't do it, and his reason runs counter to most of what we assume about persuading anyone of anything. Two errors are at play, and a sincere Christian can commit both out of love. One is about what quietly embarrasses you. The other is about what quietly impresses you.
