1 Peter

A sermon based on 1 Peter 1:1-2, and preached at Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Sewickley, PA, during the evening Worship Service on Sunday, September 24, 2023.

Peter comforts persecuted believers by reminding them that they are elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father. God's foreknowledge means his love set on his people before creation, and it never depends on anything he foresaw in them. Roman sacramentalism and Arminian revivalism both make God's saving power depend on the sinner's permission. God changes the will of sinners so that they come to Christ, and he will never turn away anyone who comes.
