St Barnabas Daily Devotions

1 Thessalonians 5:12-13

Listen Later

12 Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you. 13 Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other.REFLECTIONSWritten by Trish TranWhen I read these two verses I couldn’t help but smile. I smiled because my mind flipped through the names of all my dear brothers and sisters in the Lord who are labouring away teaching and living out the gospel to those around them – in both big and small ways.I would like to emphasise three words in these two verses: “… those who care and admonish you IN THE LORD.” This type of care ripples through so much more depth than a simple, “How are you going mate?”, but rather it’s those who genuinely care about how your walk with God is going, talk through your struggles and encourage you to stand firm and keep marching forward until Jesus returns.I wonder who are the people in your life who care for you in the Lord? It may be someone who reads the Bible and prays for you, people who prepare and work tirelessly behind the scenes preparing sermons and Bible studies, writing lesson plans for a kids church, or crunch in some fun admin time organising a church event. I encourage you to sit down and take some sweet time to acknowledge those around you who care for you in the Lord.Let them know you acknowledge their labour in the Lord.Let them know you are thankful for how they care for you in the Lord.Let them know you love them.Let them know you are praying for them.ABOUT THE AUTHORTrish is part of our Fairfield Evening Church.
