14 And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone. 15 Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else.16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.REFLECTIONSWritten by William HuynhWaking up to another day of working from home, without the structure of traveling to work, I find it so easy to waste the morning wandering around aimlessly. I wonder if this is what our spiritual life has been like in the time of COVID. With many of our church structures disappearing or changing, it is easy for us to just spiritually wander around without purpose.BUT, what a great encouragement it is to read this passage from 1 Thessalonians. There are clear and specific instructions about how we can be caring for and relating to one another as brothers and sisters in the faith. This instruction isn't just for ministers but for all of us! As verses 14 & 15 say, we should seek to warn people who are causing trouble, encourage those who are discouraged, help the weak, be patient with everybody, and do good to others as we wait for Jesus’ return.When we are struggling for purpose and motivation, it is easy to just be self-seeking and think “Poor me.” But knowing that God is in control and knowing his plan for the world enables us to care for one another, and it also motivates us to live with a constant God-focus – to rejoice always, pray continually and giving thanks in all circumstances (vv 16-18).As I've reflected on these truths in 1 Thessalonians, I have been convicted to contact a few friends to encourage them in their faith.
