After the daring escape of Robert Smalls, an enslaved man in South Carolina, the Union army is tipped off by Smalls about weak defenses in South Carolina and see their chance to seize the city of Charleston. Confederate General John C. Pemberton and Union Commander David Hunter fight it out in one of the great missed opportunities of the U.S. Civil War.
