#10 - Jenny Dowell OAM - Former Mayor of Lismore

Listen Later

Our former Mayor, Jenny is a person that absolutely loves her City, our City of Lismore & the Surrounding Areas.

Anybody that sees the positives in Lismore and wants to see it grow and thrive will always have a place on this show and a platform to be heard.

Moving here in 1991 Jenny didn't waste anytime getting fully immersed into the lifestyle, the culture and the atmosphere of the Northern Rivers.

Working in special education while volunteering for numerous organisations, Jenny had no real intentions in getting involved in local politics or council, until she personally witnessed a social injustice that stirred something up inside of her, hit a nerve that fueled a burning desire to get involved and to make a difference.

Jenny joined Lismore City Council in 2004 where she remained for Twelve and a Half Years - 8 years as Mayor.

In this Podcast we talk about all sorts of things with Jenny. Her time as Mayor, her own battle with Breast Cancer, the Committee's she is on, the Organisations she is a Patron for and her Passions she loves to Volunteer for.

In 2017, Jenny was named an Honorary Doctor of Southern Cross University and awarded an OAM for her services to local government and the community, where she still plays a role as a "Mayor Mentor" with other councils around NSW.

Although Jenny is long retired, her calendar is still very busy. She is always actively promoting whats going on around the area, visiting different events and always has a patient ear and a kind word for people that recognise her out and about.
