THE LAST NOAH'S ARK?
"100 HEARTBEATS "by Animal conservationist, Jeff Corwin is an informative book based on the worlds most endangered animal species.
His book's title refers to the most critically endangered species that have 100 or fewer individual animals that are still alive today. Although; some of those animals are listed, the book goes into various other species that are still relatively high in number, but...on a downward spiral for survival.
Mr. Corwin is extremely passionate and knowledgeable regarding his life's work and purposefully... transfers some of those feelings to his readers.
The book is an on-going virtual encyclopedia of specific animals and their tragic stories. Corwin uses a great deal of statistics to help solidify his arguments which would be better used... as a prosecutor in poaching cases. Sometimes, the on-going "statistical barrages" and "salvos of doom" become depressing to read without a break of fresh air... somewhere in between.
Corwin is to the world of land animals, what the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society is to their oceanic counterparts. He is today's on-going "Steve Irwin" and an important link in the crusade to champion a very serious and troubling war that will ultimately affect us all.
This is a book with some old and, some new information. It is an important book with an important message. Hopefully, Mr. Corwin's pleas will not fall upon deaf ears.
Everyone should read this book.
A very easy read, couldn't put the book down. This should be mandatory reading in schools, to raise awareness and compel people to do something to save the planet, and thus, ourselves. I have personally witnessed the change in sea life over the last 25 years and it's shocking to look through my old dive logs and realize I see only a fraction of the sea life that I did 25 years ago. This book would make a great birthday or Christmas present for anyone that loves animals.
A call to arms for species protection
Corwin uses this book, correctly, as a vehicle to push for greater protection for endangered species around the world. The chapters are fairly short and arranged by species.
