... heading flowers or even direct sowing seeds or things like that. This book though is a great guide ...
I believe I never really thought of myself as a person with a green thumb and whom you will see walking in a garden and dead heading flowers or even direct sowing seeds or things like that. This book though is a great guide for beginners (like me) to get educated on the vital basics novices need to know about gardening, specifically vegetable gardening. The author started with the kind of soil a gardener needs to use, when artificial lighting is required, watering your plants during the cool part of the day to the different fertilizers needed etc. Who knows when I retire I could just stay in a peaceful countryside and grow my own garden? At least I already know the basics.
    Great Beginner Guide
I've been wanting to do some vegetable gardening for the last few years, but I didn't know where to start. After seeing this gem on Amazon I had to buy it. I'm a total beginner but I learnt so much from this. You'll learn about why you need to garden (especially when you read about what goes into supermarket vegetables) all the way down to the nitty gritty of how to garden. 5 star book.
A must read for any future gardener i would even recommend it to teens interested in gradening
Definitely a helpful book for any gardener. Goes over all things required to grow your own vegetable garden (don't forget to sign up for the free book), all the equipment and maintenance tasks you need to do! A must read for any future gardener i would even recommend it to teens interested in gradening! 5/5
Thank you for great tips and thoughts!
A well written guide for a beginner gardener, on what to observe and to do, whenever he/she decides to garden. The detailed directions are very much appreciated and should be carefully read before deciding what to grow. So glad I read it before I got started!

    Title: Campaigning for Clean Air
    Subtitle: Strategies for Pro-Nuclear Advocacy
    Author: Meredith Angwin
    Narrator: Pamela Almand
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 7 hrs and 5 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 12-14-17
    Publisher: Author's Republic

    Publisher's Summary:
Pro-nuclear people can make important contributions to the energy debate. This audiobook will help you make your voice heard. Advocates appreciate the importance of nuclear power for clean air and for our planet's future.
In this audiobook, award-winning author Meredith Angwin guides you in your advocacy:
Campaigning for Clean Air features anecdotes, examples, and insights from many pro-nuclear advocates. This audiobook will inspire your work for a clean energy future.

and I for one am very glad that she took the time to put that experience ...
A much-needed guide to advocating for a clean environment, with emphasis on nuclear energy. Meridith Angwin's experience on this topic is significant, and I for one am very glad that she took the time to put that experience into a book, to be used as a tool to help the pro-nuclear movement be more effective.
    A straightforward message told simply.
Trained as a chemist, Mrs. Angwin's science background belies the fact that she relates well to others and can come across as a typical small town gal. From reading her blog and watching a couple videos, she could easily be mistaken for a simple housewife & grandmother - until a STEM subject comes up. Then she'll engage at that level, patiently listening before asking questions which make any expert pause to formulate a succinct & accurate answer. When Meredith describes how good (she hopes) this book is and what a reader should get out of it, she's spot on - not just waxing poetically. This is a recipe for becoming a modern, ecological warrior for a healthier planet.
Helpful guide in the fight to protect our largest source of clean energy.
Meredith Angwin has done a service to pro-nuclear environmentalists with her book. Actually, "book" might be more of a misnomer, it's more of an user's manual for all the power you didn't realize you had as an individual to affect policy change.
Drawing from her experience in the fight to save Vermont Yankee, Angwin inventories several tactics that proved useful in her campaign, as well as reflects on weak spots that should be corrected in the future. The "Brownie Deficit" was one, shorthand for the historical lack of communities based around fighting for nuclear plants.
It is likely to be a resource for years to come as we work to bring Weinberg's vision of the second nuclear era into fruition.
If you read only one, make it THIS one!
There are many excellent books about the what and the why of nuclear power. This one is about the _how_ of pro-nuclear advocacy.
âCampaigning for Clean Air,â by Meredith Angwin, is perhaps the best book on activism I have ever read â and I have read my share of them.

Title: The Green Amendment: Securing Our Right to a Healthy Environment
    Author: Maya K. van Rossum
    Narrator: Maya K. van Rossum
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 8 hrs and 43 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 12-05-17
    Publisher: Disruption Books
    Genres: Science & Technology, Environment
    Publisher's Summary:
The constitutional change we need to protect our priceless natural resources.
For decades, activists have relied on federal and state legislation to fight for a cleaner environment. And for decades, theyve been fighting a losing battle. The sad truth is our laws are designed to accommodate pollution rather than prevent it. Its no wonder people feel powerless when it comes to preserving the quality of their water, air, public parks, and special natural spaces.
But there is a solution, argues veteran environmentalist Maya K. van Rossum: Bypass the laws and turn to the ultimate authority - our state and federal constitutions.
In 2013, van Rossum and her team won a watershed legal victory that not only protected Pennsylvania communities from ruthless frackers but affirmed the constitutional right of people in the state to a clean and healthy environment. Following this victory, van Rossum inaugurated the Green Amendment movement, dedicated to empowering every American community to mobilize for constitutional change.
Now, with The Green Amendment, van Rossum lays out an inspiring new agenda for environmental advocacy, one that will finally empower people, level the playing field, and provide real hope for communities everywhere. Listeners will discover:
We all have the right to pure water, clean air, and a healthy environment. Its time to claim that right - for our own sake and that of future generations.

Important Book for our Times and the Future Health and Well Being of Earth
This is an extremely important book, written by the courageous van Rossum, a leader in the movement to preserve and protect the health and viability of our earth. In The Green Amendment, she brilliantly intertwines the personal and the political, the practical and the philosophical. I have long admired van Rossum's laser sharp intelligence and eloquent advocacy for the natural world and our right to breath clean air and drink untainted water. This manifesto raises the level of discussion for conservationists and environmentalists throughout the land. Bravo Maya!
    Phenomenal
A phenomenal work that brilliantly manages to tread the fine line walked by those in the environmental community: it's both cautious and hopeful; practical and visionary. It speaks clearly and incisively to the power of environmental rights; why the movement to recognize them is needed now more than ever; and how we might actually do it. Thank you Maya for your leadership and your voice.
Yes, the States Need a Green Amendment Now
In the interest of full disclosure, I live in a Delaware River community and we are impacted by a proposed pipeline project that is discussed in this book. I know Maya and interact with her often. While I am unable to be completely objective about Maya herself - she is a force of nature who provides deep and endless energy to the communities she supports and we would be lost without her - as a scientist and science writer I can, in fact, be objective about her book.
The book is really well written and allows the reader a fast paced experience as it winds the legal and environmental issues of over development (or stupid development, or illegal development) through the lives of the people who must deal with it. The stories of those people are described factually, and the book is heavily referenced.

  • In Our Hands: Handbook for Intergenerational Actions to Solve the Climate Crisis Audiobook by Wilford H. Welch

Title: In Our Hands: Handbook for Intergenerational Actions to Solve the Climate Crisis
    Author: Wilford H. Welch
    Narrator: Wilford H. Welch
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 3 hrs and 22 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 11-01-17
    Publisher: Wilford H. Welch
Ratings: 2 of 5 out of 1 votes
    Genres: Science & Technology, Environment
    Publisher's Summary:
In Our Hands shows you the exciting, satisfying roles you can play to solve the climate crisis and just how you can create a better world for yourself, your children, and grandchildren by getting engaged. The book explains why global warming and climate change do not have to be scary topics. It succinctly explains the science of global warming and the challenges it is causing, then offers a pathway to success.
According to research by the Yale Program on Climate Communication 18% of Americans are alarmed by climate change and are taking individual, consumer and political actions to address it, while another 34% say they are concerned but in reality are not engaged. These 34% are sitting on the sidelines hoping that technological breakthroughs, government initiatives and/or the efforts of those 18% will solve the problem. But that 18% is not enough to win this race.
This book will inspire those "concerned but not engaged citizens" to jump in the boat and start rowing. If they do, the movement will become unstoppable. Looking back from 2050, the author presents two futures, one if we do take effective individual and collective actions, the other if we do not. The final chapter is filled with extraordinary resources for those who want to explore the issues further, from the shift to renewable energy to dealing with plastics and climate refugees.
As the subtitle suggests, In Our Hands is indeed a Handbook for Intergenerational Actions to Solve the Climate Crisis .

    Repeating solutions that we know
As an audio book, only the first half, with best and worst case scenarios for our future, is interesting. The second half is not of any use on audio. In print, it can function as a guide that gives an overview of existing films, books and articles about climate change, but it makes no sense to make a spoken list all these resources.
Besides this, I expected a more original take on making more people actively involved. But this book doesn't give any new approach, it just advises to "watch films like Before the Flood and An Inconvenient Truth".

Weaving science, travel, history, and humor with diverse examples to chart and describe the phases of species invasion and human response, Anthony introduces field researchers and managers who seek to understand the biological, social, and economic aspects of this complex issue, and whose work collectively suggests the emergence of a global shadow economy centered on invasives.

    Publisher's Summary:
Our relationship to birds is different from our relationship to other wild creatures. We love to watch them, listen to them, keep them as pets, wear their feathers, even converse with them. Birds, Jim Robbins posits, have helped us in so many of our endeavours - learning to fly, clothing and feeding ourselves, and providing medical treatments. And they even have much to teach us about being human.
A natural storyteller, Robbins illuminates how qualities unique to birds make them invaluable to humankind - from the wings of turkey buzzards influencing the Wright brothers' flight design to the quietly powerful presence of eagles in a disadvantaged neighbourhood of Washington, DC, rehabilitating the troubled teenagers placed in charge of their care.
Australian birds abound in this fascinating story, from the superb lyrebird, whose song is the most sophisticated in the world - and can include mimicry of other birds, koalas, and even crying babies and chainsaws - to the brush turkey, who helped scientists find out how dinosaurs first took to the skies. Exploring both cutting-edge scientific research and our oldest cultural beliefs, Robbins shows us that we must fight to save the imperilled bird population, for the sake of both the planet and humankind.
