100K Level Excellence: Redefining Success for HumanitariansLately, I’ve been obsessed with one question:
What does true excellence look like for humanitarians who want both impact and independence?
Not just “doing good work,” not just surviving another deployment or contract, but operating at a level I call 100K level excellence – where your income, impact, and integrity are all aligned.
As I keep reflecting on this journey of humanitarian millionaires and what it means to create impact at that level, I realized something important: if I don’t operationalize excellence for myself, it will remain a nice idea instead of a lived reality.
So in this post, I want to share:Why I see excellence as the antidote to the dependency mindset.
The three core pillars of 100K level excellence
How you can begin shifting from survival to excellence in your own life and work
My hope is that, as I live this out and share the process, you’ll begin to see what’s possible for you too.
Excellence as the Antidote to DependencyIf you’ve been in my world for a while, you know my mission:
To help humanitarians gain independence from the system and detox from dependency.
By “system,” I mean the UN system, the broader humanitarian ecosystem, and any structure that conditions us to believe:
Our value is determined by contracts, titles, or donors
Our safety depends on pleasing “the system”
Our dreams must fit into what’s already been approved or funded
This is the dependency mindset:A way of living where other people and systems decide how we live, how we work, and how big we are “allowed” to be.
Excellence is the opposite of that.
