In an exclusive interview with 1010 WINS, Rapp shares how his new one-man show, "Without You" helped him through the most difficult year of his own life.

The Twin Parks Fire is one of the deadliest fires in the history of New York City. Over 60 people were injured, 13 critically at the time, and 17 people died, all ranging in ages from eight to 60.

It was a fire that was allowed to do such great damage due to multiple structural issues, such as alarms that did not go off and self closing doors that did not work. It was a fire that happened in the shadow of low employment of firefighters that could've helped fight the blaze, and it was a fire that was foreshadowed by the poor conditions of preventative measures in the building.

1010 WINS did not just cover the fire, but the news around it. What was the biggest contributing factor to the number of casualties? Which organization should shoulder the blame? What were the biggest structural issues that allowed the fire to reach such a high casualty rate, not just in the building itself but in the institutions that should've managed and regulated it?

April 12th in 2022 originally started as a day that, as one of our anchors put it, seemed to start off with a more muted headline concerning inflation prices among products. Sadly that was not the case after traffic reporter Karen Stuart for 1010 WINS started pointing out some serious delays around the N train at the Sunset Park station.

What started as a smoke warning quickly elevated to numerous reporters of gunfire with multiple people wounded, as much as over a dozen. Frank James, at the time unidentified, used smoke bombs in a subway car on the N train and started firing indiscriminately into the crowds.

People were running away in the trains trying to escape the smoke and gunfire with scattered reports from witnesses and police painting a grave picture of a mass casualty shooting happening right in the subways of New York City.

1010 WINS was one of the first stations on the ground that was filtering through the reports to give the most accurate picture of what was happening. From bringing on live interviews with witnesses to a team coverage of reporters on the ground covering all facets of the story, 1010 WINS provided some of the most comprehensive and accurate coverage of one of the deadliest subway shootings in the city's history.
