There was a time when anything with subtitles was considered far too intellectual and posh for mainstream consumption - but thanks in part to the meteoric rise in the fantastic Scandi-Noir genre, we now think nothing of settling down and applying a bit more concentration.
This is rewarded with some incredible viewing. Imagine a world without 'The Platform', 'Money Heist', 'Lupin' and now... 'Oxygen'.
Alexandre Aja is known for bringing us some of the most watchable horror of the past few decades, but thanks to lockdown, has had the opportunity to deliver this socially-distant claustrophobic Sci-Fi thriller starring Melanie Laurent.
As well as ‘Oxygen’ the girls also recommended these titles, available to watch now:

Mark Millar is a legend in the Comic Book world, having written stories that morphed into Hollywood blockbusters such as Civil War and Logan. He is the president of Millarworld, and is responsible for iconic characters such as Kick-Ass and Kingsmen. His first series for Netflix is the mind-blowing Jupiter's Legacy, which stars Josh Duhamel and Ben Daniels in the story of the Union - a group of superheroes whose Utopian view of the world is being sorely tested. It was an absolute honour to get him on the show - and what a great chat we had!

Surprise!
Just when you thought we'd left for the year, we sneak back with an exclusive chat with the brains behind 'Death to 2020' - the surprise mockumentary created by the brains behind 'Black Mirror' - Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones.
Starring Samuel L. Jackson, Hugh Grant, Lisa Kudrow, Joe Keery, Leslie Jones, Kumail Najiani and Diane Morgan, 'Death to 2020' is sure to give this year the send off it deserves. Well, we assume it will anyway, as this was SUCH a surprise, we haven't even seen it yet!
Never mind though - Tolly and Gena still managed to squeeze some juicy intel out for your pleasure. So, whilst you're waiting for 27th December to arrive - think of this as the little present mum allowed you to open early, for being really, really good.
Thanks so much to Charlie and Annabel for their time.
See you in 2021!
For our final episode of 2020, we'd like to take you to Shondaland if we may?
Bridgerton is the latest masterpiece to come from Shondaland - Shonda Rhimes' production company. Set in high society London and based on Julia Quinn's best-selling novels, the series arrives on Netflix UK this Christmas Day.
G&T got the opportunity to talk to one of it's stars, Nicola Coughlan, about the show, what it's like to become part of Rhimes family and (of course) a few words on some other show she was in called "Derry Girls" (we stan). She is by far one of the happiest and loveliest people we've ever met!
As well as 'Bridgerton' the girls also recommended these titles, available to watch now:

You know the phrase "Good things happen to good people"? Well, in our penultimate episode before the Christmas break, Gena and Tolly caught up with the person that phrase was invented for - Quinta Brunson.
Quinta was their colleague from 'Ye Olde Buzzfeed Days' who has gone on to do amazing things with HBO and - the reason for our episode - the incredible 'Big Mouth', which is back for it's fourth season. Safe to say the three were NOT short of conversation!
As well as 'Big Mouth' the girls also recommended:

We guarantee there's not a single person reading this that won't have had their lives improved by today's guest. Chris Columbus' filmography reads like a list of childhood memories - From writing 'The Goonies' and 'Gremlins', discovering and directing Macaulay Culkin in the Home Alone movies and then enchanting a whole new generation with the first three Harry Potter movies - it's pretty safe to say, he's a flipping Christmas filmmaking genius. So to celebrate his latest - 'The Christmas Chronicles 2' arriving on Netflix, get those headphones on and prepare for an unexpectedly emotional cinematic masterclass.

As if The Crown would only get a single 10/10 episode! You loved our special with Cate Hall last week so much - we've gone in for seconds, only THIS time, we've bagged ourself a princess!
Erin Doherty is simply amazing as the stoic and curious Princess Anne - and even BETTER in real life! Hear her take Tolly and Gena through talking like a Royal (clue: they need a bit more practise) and exactly how you prepare for a role in such a prestigious show. Thanks Erin - we'll definitely be down for some Lewisham post-lockdown bevvies!

If there's one series to make 2020 feel almost worth it, it's got to be The Crown - and for a lot of us, THIS season is the one we've all been waiting for.
For its fourth outing, they've wheeled out the big guns - Lady Diana AND Margaret Thatcher? Netflix, now you're just spoiling us!
In the first of our 'The Crown' double, Tolly and Gena go behind the scenes to talk to Cate Hall - who has the most incredible job in the world - she's the person responsible for The Queen's wig AND Diana's lipstick. It's a fascinating chat - you'll LOVE IT!

Think it's too early for Christmas? Well, you're dead wrong, because Queen Mimi has declared the holiday season OPEN! Let's face it, most of us can't wait to get this year out of the way and as we're going to be at home "quite a lot", there's no excuse to be a Scrooge in 2020.
Joining Tolly and Gena this week is Rich Hawkins, who is in charge of every Youtube video Netflix UK make - what a dream job! Not only is he extremely adept at sucking you into a video rabbit hole full of Easter eggs and BTS action, he's also incredibly entertaining company - as the girls found out!

It's the scariest time of the year! Tolly loves it, Gena HATES it - but whichever side of the spooky fence you sit on - you need to get 'His House' in your life.
'His House' tells the tale of a refugee couple from South Sudan, struggling to adjust to English life - especially as evil seems to have moved with them. Remi talks about its aesthetic and story, before diving into some seriously good Halloween movie recommendations.
