Saining has a long history in Scottish folk magic, and there is evidence of Saining practises throughout the Celtic archaeological landscape. 

Although it is not a direct equivalent of Native American smudging, it is a beautiful alternative you can weave into your Shamanic practice for cleansing and clearing yourself and your surroundings of unwanted influence.
