This morning we discuss Moshe's objection to the two tribes wanting to remain on the eastern bank of the Jordan River, outside Israel. Moshe's concern for the morale of the Jews going into Israel was allayed by instructing these men to go in as Chalutzim (pioneers - a Biblical word strongly associated with modern Zionism). My friend and teacher observes that we may act for our own interest, but we must never lose sight of the affect this will have on others. Acting as Chalutzim is a way of life, when we go to the bank, honour our parents, and everything else we do.
