This morning we begin to discuss the largest single topic in the Torah, which touches and informs every aspect of Jewish life even today, the building of the Mishkan (the modular sanctuary, meeting place of God and the Jewish People). We discuss a strange detail of the most important object that was the goal of the entire enterprise, and suggest a lesson, partially from Rabbi J.J. Schachter, with immense and constant implications for our lives.

Michael Whitman is the senior rabbi of ADATH Congregation in Hampstead, Quebec, and an adjunct professor at McGill University Faculty of Law.
