This morning we examine some of the mistakes that have led to great achievements, and the structural challenges that prevent us from learning from our mistakes, our best teachers. We examine the bizarre subject of Tzoraas (wrongly translated as leprosy) in our Torah Portion, and explore Maimonides' insight that this was one of God's greatest kindnesses, to give us positive, loving feedback so we could improve ourselves. For without learning from our mistakes, we would not have potato chips!

Michael Whitman is the senior rabbi of ADATH Congregation in Hampstead, Quebec, and an adjunct professor at McGill University Faculty of Law.
