This morning we discuss last year's Lag B'Omer tragedy with 45 killed, and many more injured and traumatized at Mt. Meron in northern Israel. What steps can and must we take to prevent another tragedy, and prevent harm from other religious practices so they are done safely. We quote Rabbi Meilech Biderman on the Jerusalem custom that requires us to leave a funeral different that we were before the loss. And we tell of the great Talmudic sage Rabbi Huna, who, as a storm was approaching, would proactively inspect structures, and fix them if necessary, to prevent harm. Where is a rabbi like Rabbi Huna today? We outline the specific steps we should take, commanded by Jewish Law, wherever we are, to protect life and health.
