This morning we celebrate Yom Yerushalayim (the reunification of Jerusalem in 1967) by exploring three anthems of Jerusalem; Psalm 122 by King David; the magnificent story of Rabbi Akiva and his wife, and the jewelry he promised and gave her; and the backstory to Naomi Shemer's iconic song, Yerushalayim Shel Zahav (Jerusalem of Gold), first sung just days before the Six Day War.

Michael Whitman is the senior rabbi of ADATH Congregation in Hampstead, Quebec, and an adjunct professor at McGill University Faculty of Law. ADATH is a modern orthodox synagogue community in suburban Montreal, providing Judaism for the next generation.
