This morning we present the classic approach of Netziv (Rabbi Naftoli Tzvi Hersh Berlin) on why the first book of the Torah is called Sefer HaYashir (The Book of the Upright), and the distinction between being religious or pious, and being upright. I then apply this to the current situation in Israel where, in my opinion, segments of Religious Zionism have strayed from its authentic path. I am indebted to Rabbi Tuvia Brander for his powerful recent sermon, though the ideas and words here are my own.
