This morning we discuss the unique and direct message Chanukah holds for us this year, 5784/2023. Due to the war in Israel, we may not feel like celebrating, but we must appreciate and actualize Chanukah's message. Based on Rabbi Aharon Lichtenstein and Daniel Gordis, we develop the connection of the two miracles of Chanukah - military and spiritual - into a blueprint of what Israeli (and globally, Jewish) society must become in order to survive and flourish.
Michael Whitman is the senior rabbi of ADATH Congregation in Hampstead, Quebec, and an adjunct professor at McGill University Faculty of Law.
