This morning we confront the moral discomfort brought by the Mitzvah to wipe out Amalek, and, until then, to remember our enmity in perpetuity. Are these Jewish qualities? And Amalek wan't even our most dangerous or potent enemy. What the Egyptians did to us was much worse, and God tells us, "Don't hate the Egyptian." We present the approach of Rabbi Yonasan Eibschitz, who posits that this Mitzvah is the exception that proves the rule.
