This morning we discuss resting on Shabbat to understand what is the definition of work from which we are to desist. Neither the Torah nor the Talmud gives us a definition, only examples. We discuss the conceptual framework suggested by Dayan Isadore Grunfeld (and others), and we focus on the one category that does not fit - carrying on Shabbat. We provide an approach that explains how not carrying on Shabbat expresses the essence of resting on Shabbat, and the challenge of achieving this while living inside an Eruv.
